Anacoco High School, a 2016 Blue Ribbon School[2] is a grade 7-12 middle/high school in Anacoco, Louisiana, a village in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. It is governed by the Vernon Parish School Board.
In 2008, Anacoco High School was among 39 Louisiana high schools recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the country's Best High Schools, receiving a bronze medal ranking.[3]
In 2016, Anacoco High School was one of seven Louisiana schools to be recognized by the United States Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School, having been labeled an "A" school since 1999.[4]
The Anacoco Indians compete in Class B of the Louisiana High School Athletics Association.
Sisters Ashley and Katie Antony are the highest-scoring sisters on the MaxPreps Top 100 high school girls basketball scorers of all-time.[5] While official LHSAA and NFHS records only take into account statistics from grades 9-12, the Antonys were able to play on the varsity high school team as seventh and eighth graders. Therefore, their true prep totals span past the traditional four-year career.[6]
Ashley Antony played five seasons (1994-99) at Anacoco – she was also a member of Pitkin High School’s varsity team as a sixth and seventh grader. In 203 games, she recorded 4,706 points and more than 1,000 career rebounds (1,082), assists (1,062) and steals (1,001). Ashley ranks No. 15 all-time in scoring at the high school girls basketball level.[5] Ashley played two seasons at Louisiana Tech before an ankle injury and subsequent surgery ended her basketball career.
Katie Antony is the all-time leading scorer in high school girls basketball history for 5-on-5 basketball (girls used to play 6-on-6) and the only high school girls basketball player ever to score 6,000 points in a career.[6] Her 6,190 point-total includes six seasons on the varsity at Anacoco. She was a five-time first team all-state player in Louisiana and a four-time all-state Most Valuable Player. She played at Vanderbilt and later transferred to LSU. She made the McDonald's All-American Team and was the Gatorade State Player of the Year. Katie stopped playing basketball in college while at LSU to concentrate on degree in medicine.[5]
In 2020, the Antony sisters were elected to the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame.[6]
On January 22, 2024, a fire destroyed the school's softball locker room, wiping out all of the team's equipment a week before the season was to begin. The facility was ruled a total loss by the Vernon Parish Fire District. Officials did not confirm a cause of the fire except to say that it was under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's office.[7]
