Northview High School is a public co-educational institution encompassing 9th-12th grades. The high school is located in the southeastern portion of the state of Alabama in Dothan, Alabama and has the 36th largest high school student population in Alabama.[1] The school won two football state titles during the 1980s.

Athletics

The school colors are cardinal and Vegas gold, their mascot is a cougar. The school includes football, baseball, basketball, softball, soccer, track, tennis, golf, cross-country, and volleyball.

Football

Northview is part of a very active football tradition in the community and a strong football rivalry with crosstown Dothan High School. This was highlighted in a commencement speech First Lady Laura Bush gave at nearby Enterprise High School on May 31, 2008, when she mentioned Northview and Dothan as significant victories for Enterprise[2]

In 2002, former University of Alabama head football coach Mike DuBose took over as head football coach at Northview High School. He had previously been named Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year for the Crimson Tide before poor seasons and personal controversy caused his firing in 2000. Dothan City school board members voted to hire DuBose, who came in with a wave of publicity and high expectations. However, the Cougars finished with an 0–10 record for the season and DuBose was gone at the end of the year.[3]

This was part of a tumultuous period for Northview football, which saw 39 consecutive losses from 2000–2004.[4] The team had won the Alabama State Playoff Championships in both 1981 and 1985, and made it to the playoffs 5 times during the 1990s.

The Great War of NHS

The Great War of NHS, also known as The Great iPad Conflict or The Great War of DCS, is an ongoing war that began in September of 2014. The war was fueled by iPad oppression brought on by the DCS iConnect Team, a corrupt organization filled with bigotry and villainy. Upon the blocking of many apps and websites, a small group of students, known as the Sausage Alliance (SA) started a subtle rebellion that would soon become a combined student body effort. After campaigns calling for war and operations carried out by the SA, enough support was gathered to officially declare war on October 18, 2014.

Following the declaration of war, not many significant operations were led by the SA, and the iConnect Team became open to compromise and peace negotiations. Many apps were reinstated to the list of allowed applications, so the war seemed to be ending without a single major battle between the opposing forces. However, the world was foolish in thinking a war that had been brewing for so long would end on such an anti-climatic note.

Just days away from an official treaty being signed, the iConnects attempted to swindle the students by going on an app blocking frenzy. This point is considered to be the largest mistake made by DCS, and the students would not forget it. All hopes for a treaty were destroyed in a fiery blaze as the SA began planning more serious plans for large operations against their enemy. The Sausage Alliance recognized a great weakness in the DCS Ring of Power that would ultimately disintegrate the DCS forces. That weakness was tension between superintendent Tim Wilder and the DCS Board. Wilder had been accused of having an unlawful affair with a fellow employee of DCS, which included actions of groping, day dreaming, and explicit comments such as "I can still taste you." A trial was scheduled for November 14, 2014, and information gathered by the SA's independent investigation was used to craftily construct Wilder's downfall. Later that day, with students surrounding a single iPad, ironically the machine used by Wilder to enslave all of his students, the announcement of Wilder's termination was broadcasted over a WTVY livestream.

The announcement was met with jubilation from the students of Northview, who took to the Commons Area to celebrate the news. Teachers attempted to control the celebration, but their efforts were futile due to the sheer number of students. The DCS flag over Northview was lowered, and the Sausage Alliance flag was raised on that fateful day.

A dormant period of the war followed, as no treaty was introduced among the evident peace. The iConnect Team, along with the DCS Board, lacked any true leadership due to the fall of Wilder, so they recognized the war as a loss on their part. However, they still had one more trick up their sleeve.

Following a devastating storm that swept through Dothan on April 25, 2015, school was canceled for the upcoming Monday and Tuesday due to cleanup efforts and power grid repairs. Upon returning to school, students were told that the missed days would not be made up at the end of the school year, but this blatant lie would soon be revealed. Approximately one week later, the announcement was made by Chris Shaw, the current NHS principal and remaining member of Wilder's corrupt, disbanded destruction ring. To the shock and dismay of students and teachers alike, two days were added to the end of the school year to compensate for the canceled days. This decision was immediately met with harsh criticism and violence, with teachers even telling students not to attend school on the additional days since grades would already be finalized. Some teachers, however, demanded that students return just in order to extend their suffering. One such teacher, Morgan Boyd, was specifically targeted by the Sausage Alliance, and an orchestrated attack was carried out by two students with ties to the SA on May 11, 2015. The attack consisted of an attempt to suffocate Boyd, but was quickly interrupted by other teachers and school officers in the vicinity. With that, it was made obvious that the war still rages on.
