Henry Turner Jr. (born December 02, 1960) is an American musician, vocalist, composer, producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur.[1] He is the founder and CEO of Hit City Digital Records and the lead singer of the band Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor.
Turner was born on December 02, 1960, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He did not continue his studies after his high school graduation.
In 1989, Turner founded his band, Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, and also established a recording studio Hit City Records, in the same year. Since then, he has been serving as the lead singer of Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor and the CEO of Hit City Digital Records. As the founder of Hit City Digital Records, Turner and his band have released twenty singles and eleven albums. The label also signed and produced local Louisiana artists and marketed their work nationally and worldwide.
Turner founded the Ultimate Louisiana Party in 2012, and then went on to found the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras and Soul Food Festivals. In the memory of his mentor Tabby Thomas, Turner opened Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room in 2014. The purpose of the venue is to introduce, encourage, and support regional artists. In 2019, he established Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room Heritage Museum Foundation to focus on arts and education. Through Henry Turner Jr.’s Listening Room Heritage, he organized and completed an educational project Blues Camp II in 2022.
In 2019, Turner released Music Dreams…An American Story, which is a half-hour documentary, focuses on the evolution of Turner’s music and band. From his start in a funk to Top 40, to reggae and blues. It was shot at several museums and libraries across Louisiana, and the documentary also appeared in film festivals. His other documentary "We're Going Down the Mardi Gras," which features the founding of the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras Festival in 2014, was released in 2021.
Turner received an Ambassador Award from the Slim Harpo Music Awards in 2018 and was nominated for an honorary Louisiana Ambassador from the Lieutenant Governor's Office on account of writing “The Baton Rouge Theme Song” for its 200-year celebration in 2019. In addition, October 28th of 2015 and 2017 were named Henry Turner, Jr. Day in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
