Jane Buckley (born 26 June 2003) is an Irish track and field athlete who competes over 5000m.[1]
From Newcestown, West Cork, Buckley started her athletics career with Bandon AC and also ran for Leevale AC. She attended Coláiste na Toirbhirte (Presentation College) in Bandon, County Cork prior to taking a place to study in Rhode Island at Providence College in 2022.[2][3]
Buckley started her freshman year at Providence College in late 2022, and began to be coached by Ray Treacey. In her third race Buckley won the women’s 6km at the Big East Cross-Country Championships in Massachusetts. She became only the second freshman to win the women’s race, and the first since 1982. She also finished third at the Northeast Regional competition in New York and qualified for the NCAA championships held in Oklahoma.[4]
In December 2022 Buckley secured a fifth-place finish in the women’s U20 race at the European Cross-Country Championships in Turin.[5]
Buckley was named Providence University’s female athlete of the year in May 2023.[6]
