Ibrahim Muhammad Dodo (born June 24, 1999), known professionally as Hunxho (pronounced "huncho")[4] is an American rapper and singer from Atlanta, Georgia. First starting in 2017, he would gain recognition with his project "Street Poetry" which would feature prominent Alabama rhymer, NoCap and production from JetsonMade.[5] His single "Let's Get It" which would be remixed by trap mainstay 21 Savage, after gaining virality in late 2021.[citation needed]
Ibrahim Dodo was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to a single mother. Following a move to Georgia in his adolescence, Dodo would take up an interest in basketball, an interest that grew after his height ascended to 6 foot 7. He was raised on the east side of Atlanta[6] and would move to Colorado for college before returning to Georgia to focus on his music career.[7][8]
In an interview with HotNewHipHop, Hunxho stated that he wasn't directly inspired by anyone who was from Atlanta and had created music, stating "I listen to everybody. Everybody who makes good music, ya know, Imma listen to them from time to time. But ain’t nobody influenced me."[9]
Hunxho would begin his music career in 2017 with the release of his EP Hunxhoseason.[10] Though he was prolific with his releases throughout the coming years, he wouldn't start seeing prominence until after the release of his project titled Street Poet. [11]
His single "Let's Get It" released as part of his project Street Poet 2 would shoot Hunxho into the mainstream.[12][13] The song's success would later lead to a remix by trap-pioneer 21 Savage which became Hunxho's biggest single to date, with over forty million plays on Spotify to date.[14]. Following the success of the single, Hunxho would also signed to 300 Entertainment, who would release his first project of 2022 titled Street Poetry continuing the narrative around his moniker.[15] The album would feature the aforementioned "Let's Get It" remix and Alabama's NoCap on the single titled "Made Me".[16]
His second project of 2022 titled "Xhosen", as a tribute to his son was released on June 16th, 2022.[17] The project only featured singing group WanMor on the single "Heartless" with Hunxho stating "It would be a perfect fit.’ I told them what and how to do it, but they did it in their own way. They’re on the first song on the tape."[18] Following guest appearances on singles by prominent Georgia artists Lil PJ, Rot Ken and Lil Darius, throughout the remainder of the year, Hunxho would keep quiet with solo releases throughout the year, while teasing an upcoming project titled, 22. [19][20][21]
Hunxho's first project of 2023 titled Humble As Ever would be released at the top of 2023. The ten-song-project would feature the single "Highly Performing", one of Hunxho's biggest singles to date.[22][23] Hunxho's long awaited project 22, which would also be his debut album, would finally be released on March 22, 2023. The 22-song project features Tee Grizzley, Yung Mal and Lil Poppa and would feature some of Hunxho's most prominent singles including "True To My Religion" and "48 Laws Of Power". [24][25][26] The idea of "22" was first teased on Xhosen with the single titled "22". He states the meaning represents his East Atlanta block where he was raised, his birthday being June 22nd, and the year 2022, where he would be signed, acquitted of his RICO charge and celebrate the birth of his first son. [27][28][29]
Hunxho would continue his prolific release schedule with the release of the eight-song-EP 4 Days In La in May 2023, which featured Lil Dallas and production from longtime trap producer Murda Beatz. [30] He would later be named a supporting act on the nationwide "It's Only Us Tour" headlined by Lil Baby, in promotion of his third studio album, It's Only Me released the prior fall, joining fellow southern artists Rylo Rodriguez and GloRilla. [31][32] The tour began on July 26th, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
In December 2018, Hunxho, along with Xavier Johnson, was arrested for theft of a vehicle, when the twosome were charged with stealing a SUV in Buckhead.[33] Hunxho had also been indicted for a RICO charge, where he was acquitted in June 2022. [34][35]
In June 2023, Hunxho was reportedly arrested in Atlanta at the LYFE ATL Nightclub for gun possession, following a shooting at a birthday party hosted by the rapper.[36]
