Jamie Luke Smith (born 12 July 2000) is an English cricketer who plays for Surrey and England Lions .[1]
Like several other Surrey players, he learnt his cricket at Whitgift School.
He made his Twenty20 debut for Surrey in the 2018 t20 Blast on 5 July 2018.[2] He made his first-class debut for Surrey against Marylebone Cricket Club in Dubai on 24 March 2019.[3] He scored a century becoming the ninth batsman for Surrey to score a century on first-class debut.[4] He was dismissed for 127 in the first innings setting a new record for the highest score made on first-class debut for Surrey.[5] He made his List A debut on 25 April 2019 for Surrey in the 2019 Royal London One-Day Cup.[6]
In April 2022 Smith scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket with 234 not out against Gloucestershire in the 2022 County Championship.[7] Smith was part of the Surrey team that won the County Championship in 2022 and 2023.
In March 2023 he was bought by the Birmingham Phoenix for the 2023 season of The Hundred. On 21 August 2023 Smith signed a new multi year contract with Surrey.[8]
On 03 January 2023 Smith was called up to the England Lions test squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.[9] During this tour Smith scored the fastest England Lions century after he hit a 71 ball century against Sri Lanka A in Galle. He broke the previous record which was Luke Wright’s 91-ball century for the England Lions vs New Zealand A in 2008/09.[10]
On 6 September 2023 Smith received his first full call up for England for the ODI series against Ireland.[11]
