Kirwin is an unincorporated community in Park County, in the U.S. state of Wyoming. Its post office has been closed.[2]

The former gold and silver mining town is a historic site near Meeteetsee; Kirwin is around a Volcanic Zone;Amelia Earhart was having a cabin built there before her disappearance. In 1886 Adams and Kirwin started filing and claiming stakes that would be Kirwin. In September of 1891, 16 other people joined them, and officially form the: Wood River Mining District; By 1894, eastern spectators got attention of the business, and a New York capitalist organized the “Wyoming Mining Company.”; Charles Tewksbury, a high-ranked member of a failed mining company, near Dayton became a resident manager and owner of a general store, with his wife, Sarah, 1899 marked creation of the Galena Ride Mining Inc., founded by Henry Schnitzel; and by South Dakota investors, Galena Ride Mining Incorporation, invested in land down by the Wood River; and created the Antler Land And Cattle Company as a base for mining operations specifically by them; this diversity would give them an advantage in the business direction in following years; as more miners and mining companies arrived, a lot of tunnels and shafts gave their way in the surrounding mining areas, with growing optimism. A guy named Richard Dunrud got interviewed and Dunrud said that “Somewhere around 1902-1907 was when most of Kirwin, Wyoming’s tunnels started popping in The Galena Ridge Tunnel driven down the canyon creek, the Longhorn tunnel, which is a tunnel in the a mountain called “Mineral Mountain.” he says that we have a “Tumlum” *which isn’t a real word* the main idea he says is to drill drive the shaft vertically and intersect the vein, then drive southward, under wood river to follow the vein with pockets within the vein of rich mineral/ore ; which is one of the richest discoveries in Kirwin and the surrounding areas. They needed to get the water flowing out of the shaft they were driving because Dunrud says “the water was coming in from Wood River rapidly!” so they agreed to bring a boiler down the shaft to generate steam; and they then clanged on to the steam, then clanged on to steam driven pumps to pump the water out; Bronco Nell, one of the people in this area, was THE ONE that hauled the boiler up in pieces in the wagon, and she was one of the freighters in Kirwin and the surrounding areas, she was a famous character, Bronco Nell was the only person that served two terms in the prison in Wyoming, first stealing horses then later moon-shining in Meeteetse,” and she was also a muleskinner, she had a freight in business that she hauled for.
