Mahan Sadrat (Persian: ماهان صدرات; born 1998) is one of the detainees of the Mahsa Amini protests.[1][2] He was arrested in Tehran and on November 3, 2022 by Tehran Revolutionary Court Branch 26.[3] He was accused of Muharebeh and sentenced to death. His death sentence was overturned by the lower court on December 24, 2023.[4]
The arrest took place between October 12, 2022 and November 3, 2022.[5][6] After his arrest, Sadrat was denied his lawyer of choice.[7][8][9] Sadrat was charged with possessing a knife and engaging in a confrontation with an intelligence officer.[10][11][12] During the trial, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, video evidence was presented, though its authenticity and source were not verified. Sadrat refuted the allegations, denying both possession of the knife and its use in the altercation.[13][14] Sadrat was sentenced to death,[15] though this was later overturned by the court’s media and the death sentence “suspended.[16]
We don't even know when the sentence will be executed. They say it is a security case and we don't know what to do. I don't know what to do... ...He said many times in the court session that the knife was not in his hand, but they gave Maharebeh sentence and now they say that the case has been executed.
