Pettandarulu (English: Rulers) is a 1970 Telugu revolutionary film, produced by U. Visweswara Rao on Jyothi Cine Syndicate banner,[2] and directed by C. S. Rao.[3] The film starred N. T. Rama Rao, Savitri, Shobhan Babu, Vijaya Nirmala in the lead roles,[4] and the music was composed by K. V. Mahadevan.[5][6]

Plot

The film begins in a village Pettanalapalem there President Jagannadham (Nagabhushanam) Sarpanch Butchaiah (Mukkamala), Munsif Achaiah (Rao Gopal Rao), Lakshmipathi (Allu Ramalingaiah) & Panchayati Gumustha Govindaiah (Dhulipala) behaves as dictators of the village who diverts all the government all the funds & schemes for their personal use and no one has the courage to oppose their cruel deeds. Bhushayya (Chittoor V. Nagaiah) a middle-class farmer is a well-respected and kind-hearted person in the village, his first wife is Jaganadham’s sister they are having a son Suryam (Prabhakar Reddy) after her death Bhushayya marries Ranganayakamma (Hemalatha) their son is Chandram (N. T. Rama Rao) who is having a good ideology and always tries to relieve his village from the atrocities of Bhushayya & gang. From the childhood, Suryam was brought up at his Bhushayya’s house, marries his daughter Lakshmi (Savitri) and they a son Raja. Suryam is a spoiled person with all bad habits and is attracted towards a dancer in the city called Nagamani (Vijayalaitha). Bhushayya’s sister-in-law Janakamma is a widow having two daughters Nirada (Jhansi) and Sharada (Sadhya Rani). Once Jagannadam tries to molest Nirada and before dying she gives a death statement to the village Doctor Samuel, Jaganadham tries to manage him but he refuses, Jaganadham kills him also and spreads rumors that Nirada & Doctor have eloped. After that, he asks Janakamma to make her second daughter Sarada's marriage with him for which she rejects.

Relationships between Jaganadham and Bhushayya’s families are not strong. On the occasion of Raja’s learning of alphabets ceremony Aksharabhyasam, there starts a big quarrel that who perform the ritual. Chandram makes Bhushayya do so. Furious Jaganadham asks his acolyte Kotayya (Satyanarayana) to kill Chandram. But new village Doctor Rohini (Vijaya Nirmala) saves him and both fall in love. On the other side Jagannadham’s son, Veeranjaneyulu (Raja Babu) loves Govindam’s daughter Sarasa (Rama Prabha) who is a nurse. Suddenly a beggar (Relangi) appears in the village who teaches morals while begging. Meanwhile, Janakamma arranges her daughter marriage but Jagannadham spoils it. Bhushayya could not bear this injustice spits on his face. Jagannadham decides to take revenge against Bhushayya, so, he instigates Suryam against his father for his share in the property. Suryam files the case in the court, unfortunately, Bhushayya dies while going to court. After his death, Chandram gives entire property to his brother and leaves the house along with his mother. Chandram unites all the villagers and makes them oppose Jagannatham & gang by establishing a union. At the same time, Mohan (Shobhan Babu) brother of Rohini enters as a Vigilance Officer to the village, he loves and marries Sarada. With the help of Chandram & Veeranjaneyulu Mohan segregates all the proves against Jagannatham and seals all their illegal activities. Frustrated Jagannatham orders Kotaiah to kidnap Mohan & Rohini and also orders to burn the entire crop of the village. Knowing this Suryam also turns against Jagannatham and reaches to stop this atrocity. Parallelly, Veeranjaneyulu informs Chadram, he protects Mohan & Rohini. Now the entire village bursts out with fire and moves together to see the end of Jagannatham & party when they are about to kill them the beggar turns as a police officer who has been appointed by the government to find the criminal activities happening in the village. Finally, all the baddies are arrested, the entire family is reunited and the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Chandram & Rohini.
