Shaheen Buneri is a journalist hailing from Buner District in northwestern Pakistan, who served as a staff reporter for the English national daily, the Statesman Peshawar. Additionally, he worked as an editor and documentary producer for Asian Vision Television (AVT) and served as a journalist for Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Mashaal Radio in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2011, he was honored with a Persephone Miel Fellowship from the Pulitzer Center.[1][2]
Buneri was born in Buner District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He studied English literature and political science at the University of Peshawar in 2000. Buneri's journalistic journey began in 2001 as a staff reporter for the Statesman Peshawar. Later, he joined Asian Vision Television (AVT) in 2004 as an editor and documentary producer. In 2006, he became the first journalist to cover the Taliban's actions in the Swat Valley. Shaheen also worked with the BBC World Service. As a media and communication consultant, he collaborated with organizations like UNICEF, Action Aid Pakistan, and International Media Corps (IMC).[1]
Currently, Shaheen serves as a journalist for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and Radio Mashaal in Prague.[3]
