Trim excessive detail from the lead - the nuances are covered in the main body, the lead need only summarise the salient points. Per Morgan 2005 p. 417, "Washington insisted on the return of all escaped slaves" - if it's good enough for Professor Morgan it should be good enough for Wikipedia

source does not support such a strong term as "recoiled". Morgan writes that GW was "reluctant", and quotes him as saying ""if these poor wretches are to be held in a state of slavery, I do not see that a change of masters will render it more irksome..."

→American Revolution: ce for flow, chronology and accuracy - Hirschfeld does not state Washington "ordered" integration, and quotes Washington saying "I think it would be best..." etc. Otherwise fundamental point that Washington led a racially integrated army still stands.
