Removed the word "white" as SMA hoped to attract not only White Students but Asian and Hispanic students as well. SMA had admitted Asian and Hispanic Students since the early 1900's. Staunton Military Academy
The Academy admitted student of Hispanic and Asian descent throughout most of its existence. The earliest documentation of this is in the 1903 catalog for Hispanic student and the 1920 catalog for Asian students. The catalogs can be viewed at www.http://smahistory.com/sma-catalogs/. One of the most notable Hispanic Cadets was Ricardo Martinelli former President of Panama (term 2009-2014) who graduated in 1969. Black students were first admitted in 1973.
