I studied Early Irish in Trinity and I can tell you that the term "Old Gaelic" is incorrect. John T. Koch has been wrong on many of his writing regarding Celtic languages - I would not use his an a reliable reference.

Ní raibh aon ainm Gaeilge don Stát na Breataine seo. There was never an official name of this British political entity in Irish. Having one seems to suggest approval of it.
