"Mountjoy won only one more frame as Davis eased to an 18–12 victory." - I was a little uncertain about some of the wording up to this point, but this especially seems a little much - the article referencing this in fact describes him "clinch"ing the victory
"By 1988 he was out of the top 16 in the world rankings." - this is the first time his world ranking is even mentioned. Would expect it to have at least been mentioned earlier on when he did breach the top 16
So, the rankings never used to be that big a deal, as there was only a handful of players in the 1970s. It wasn't until the late 80s, where you would need a high ranking to not have to qualify where it became a big deal. He was ranked world number 14 after his first pro season for instance. "but did appear in the 2002 World Snooker Championship." - to what result?
