References

[edit]

This article needs a lot of work on the refs. Most of the links give in the citations (most of which are in Greek) say nothing about the assertions made. Forbes magazine seem to have never heard of him, and all I can find in online news searches is that he owns AEK football club. All these statements about him being richer than Croesus need some cites or they should be removed. MuffledThud (talk) 05:36, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's as yet still no evidence that this man owns an airline, is a billionaire, etc. The references given appear to be made as a joke: one is an article about Stelios Hajji-Ioannou, who last time I checked was a different person (though I admit I've never seen them in the same photo together...) His notability is pretty questionable at this point. MuffledThud (talk) 20:31, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He's real

[edit]

He's a real person I assure you. I don't know what exactly it is that your so upset about with the Thanopoulos brothers. Maybe you think they are not worthy of having articles in the English Wiki and maybe you are right I don't know. I do know that I didn't create the articles, but I just saw them being constantly deleted or whitewashed or whatever. Maybe they should just have Greek articles but nonetheless if they are going to have articles in English then the articles should not be constantly having material removed just because English speaks don't know about it or can't verify it.

I will say that it's probably not important that they articles in English, however these guys operate of the biggest sports clubs on the planet. So i assure you that they are wealthy. Also, I would assume that one of the biggest multi sports clubs in the world would qualify for an article. I mean, many sporting clubs have the presidents, managers, owners with articles so why not AEK? Anyway, do as you like, but I was just putting some stuff back on those articles because it is like they are being removed just because others can't speak Greek or whatever. Maybe some English speakers should let some Greek speakers handle it a little better. If references are not there then it's an issue that you don't read Greek to find them. Of course that's a problem with those articles and the guy that is writing them but it doesn't mean it is fake. I assure you these are REAL business men and wealthy and definitely well known. And the parts about AEK are definitely true. So maybe you should talk to this guy that is writing the article and get him to post some better sources in Greek. Because it looks like he's trying to do it with English ones and that's probably the whole problem.

I agree with just about everything you've written here. If all of this stuff about them is true and verifiable, then the articles should definitely stay. But the references given so far are worse than useless. Wikipedia rules are that claims have to be backed up with reliable, verifiable sources. I can't find any info about them online in English: can you find any references in English or Greek? MuffledThud (talk) 22:38, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Here is some info in English.

This is really hard. Because all I can find in English is from AEK website (and that is just because it's such a big club that is also has an English version website), anyway you can see the he is in charge of AEK and his brother is in tops of the board.

Head of AEK (and also mentions his brother):

Here is about him as President and building the new sports complex

Here is about being elected President:

I will try to find more. Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 13:36, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is a joke

[edit]

Almost everything in this article is false. I will delete a considerable portion of the article. Also references in greek lead to articles that say absolutely nothing about the points that they are supposed to justify. Forbes list does not include him. This is probably a joke article.El-greco (talk) 13:40, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
