You removed my addition to Our Miracle's plot saying that it's copyrighted material. The plot description is taken from mangaupdates. How is that counted as copyrighted material? Please explain. Hokaru (talk) 18:25, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"By submitting information to this site, you agree to allow MangaUpdates to display it unconditionally. The content remains yours, but you allow us to display it for any undisclosed time as we see fit."[1]
Because anything that is published is automatically protected by copyright laws, that includes material taken from mangaupdates. By copying material from another website, you are in violation of copyright law. —Farix (t | c) 19:41, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In this case, who is the owner of the copyrighted material? The one who write the description in mangaupdates? Or is it the first person who write it? Because I can see the exact same plot summary is used everywhere when googled. If it's the first person who wrote that, then how do we find out who is the one? We might not be able to find the owner if it. Then if I rewrite the plot summary in my own words, that plot summary copyright will belong to me? Copyright thing is confusing..
You can't use THAT plot summary because it was written and copyrighted by someone else on another website. Also mangaupdates is a user edited database AND promotes the illegal distribution of copyrighted material by providing references to groups that are scanlating manga, therefore it cannot be used as a source anyways. —Farix (t | c) 21:26, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So I can't use the summary even if I cite it? Hmm, then how would you know if certain text material are actually under any Public copyright licenses? How do you know if that summary copyright owner doesn't allow it? For example if I wrote a plot summary of whatever manga/novel/anime on my blog/livejournal/whatever, does that plot summary became my copyright? Hokaru (talk) 22:33, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, you cannot use that summary because it is written by someone else regardless of whether you cite it or not. If the text is from another website and the presumptions are (a) it is under copyright because all published works are automatically copyrighted by international laws such as the Berne Convention and (b) the owner has not given explicit permission for Wikipedia to use the text. —Farix (t | c) 23:25, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
