Untitled[edit]

NOTE: This page is for discussing the dab page itself whereas Talk:Tillicum/List of potential Tillicum related topics is for listing and discussing, potential articles

More entries to add[edit]

I don't have time to add them, but Topozone has a whole list of yet-other Tillicum placenames (haven't checked other spellings yet....); some seem to need articles; I'll table-format this later...these are USGS results only, Canadian geonames database has been exhausted already:

Place Name Region Type Elevation (feet) County Latitude Longitude Country

Tillicum boat[edit]

I came cross this (search for tillicum on the page)_ from 1928 about a "little Tillicum boat". whether that's a type of boat modelled as a toy or a toy brand-name remains to be seen. Just noting it here for later reference/research.Skookum1 (talk) 19:46, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently it's a vintage toy; I found this (search "tillicum" on page) but the linked message is "file not found".Skookum1 (talk) 19:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation page style reminder[edit]

Please reconsider before adding any more places and things to this page simply because they have "Tillicum" in the title. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) for some helpful suggestions. --Tesscass (talk) 18:34, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to cull this list; it's a branch off a discussion at Talk:The Dalles, Oregon and you might want to give me the same warning at Dalles, where I know there's some repetition for one reason or another, or things can be condensed. Tillicum maybe shouldn't be a disambiguation page; it's really a toponymy page and to do with Category:Pacific Northwest and related cats; I'm waiting for other PacNW editors to have a go at it once the dust is settled in Dalles-related and steamboat-related items; don't ask how Tillicum was inspired, it's kind of a no-brainer because of the single article-only on the whale, which is hardly the prime use. I'll trim the list in the next few days, and try and get some WA and OR editors to assist in knowing what's what. And we'll discuss whether or not it should be a dismabiguation or a list of some kind; all could/would be on List of Chinook Jargon placenames (think they already are, I was pretty thorough when I built Mark I of that.Skookum1 (talk) 22:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have as much problem with Dalles, mostly because its tidier. I'm not sure if its properly classified as a disambiguation page. It is more like a list. But the list project may have something to say about that. --Tesscass (talk) 19:49, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tillicum&curid=16764737&diff=206374017&oldid=206369779 That was a hell of a lot of work to delete, not just table formatting but the work transferring from the gazetted indexes. And deleting the information about what the term means was just....well, I won't g3et personal. I know this wasn't you, Tesscass. The point of redlinked items is they tend to show up, or get created - "if you build it they will come". This happened with Skookum when I wrote it, also with List of Chinook Jargon placenames (of which this is a subset page. Sheesh, all the work I went to just because someone made Tilikum and that was the only Wiki article with this very well-known word/name (in these parts), so I went at compiling data to prove it wasn't just a whale. And someone figures it's not important. I know I know you can't hold onto stuff here; well, by saving that link here at least it's not lost entirely; I'll transfer the contents here (unless the deleting editor would care to oblige and save me the further work). A lot of these are going to have articles for sure, and some are double/multiple entries which the list was there for people in those areas to decide what's what and which is who. I guess the main thing to dco is take off the disambiguation template; this t hen become an article about the word and not subject to arbitrary objectivites of the kind that just happened; which to me is destructive, not inventive.Skookum1 (talk) 00:12, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

mmm As you are aware, disambiguation pages are there for one purpose only ... to help readers find the article they seek from several similarly named articles ... no article, no entry, it's pretty simple. Now, if anyone wants to produce another page List of places called Tillicum, that would not be a dab page and would not be covered by the same rules ... of course every entry that didn't have an article would need a citation to support it. If this list is produced don't forget to link it to this dab page. Happy hunting :)Abtract (talk) 00:25, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have created List of potential Tillicum related topics as a reminder of what needs doing. When an article is created it should be moved from the list to the dab page which should solve the problem. :) Abtract (talk) 09:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the page as subpage of this one. Katr67 (talk) 01:35, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
