This template can be used, alongside ((user)) and related request information templates, to provide quick links for checking whether a user has ever been ((alert))ed of the contentious topics system.
For example, this template might be used at the beginning of an arbitration enforcement request:

The introductory text, Search CT alerts:, can be changed using |2=. To hide the text, declare it as empty: ((Contentious topics/log|Example|2=)) would produce,

The piped text in user talk history can be changed using |3=. The piped text in system log can be changed using |4=. |1= will default to Example (that is User:Example) if not declared.

Alerting
- ((alert/first)) (((Contentious topics/alert/first))), to alert an editor to the CT system which is mandatory for the first time an editor is alerted to contentious topics (except if they've previously been alerted to discretionary sanctions in any topic area)
