Video gaming in Bangladesh

  • Barely long enough, at 1585 characters; recent enough; hook short enough. Fulfills DYK criteria and will be passed; however, I have some issues with the prose and the utilization of sources. For example, re: the prose: The use of the words "a lot" in the second sentence, first paragraph isn't appropriate usage in an encyclopedia. You also don't tell us how earlier, although ref1 does. Ref1 also describes how gaming started in Bangladesh, with video game arcades in the 90s. There are other examples in this short article. I suggest that you have someone look at the prose and include more information from your sources. At any rate, pass. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 20:31, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Yes, that's why I chose that hook. If somehow the original hook is kept it will boost the page views and make it more interesting. Ritchie333, if we keep the MMOG in full like Massively multiplayer online game, the hook will be of 197 characters, slightly under 200, will it be ok? Akib.H (talk) 15:00, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
  • According to DYKcheck, the article currently has 2283 prose characters. Given the significant expansion, a new review needs to be undertaken, which should also cover the issues raised by Ritchie333 above. Note that the article is currently considered a stub on its talk page, and will need a reevaluation there, as DYKs are not supposed to be stubs. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:53, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Czar, I have tried to fix the close paraphrasing. I have proposed a new ALT below which is a little modification of the original hook because of its appeal to boost the views as discussed here. I have kept the the MMOG in full form like "massively multi-player online game" this time to fix the jargon, it produces a hook of 193 characters, will it be ok? Akib.H (talk) 15:26, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
The hook's inaccurate, which is why we avoid phrasing such as "which is said to be". Said by whom? Said by them. We wouldn't source such an outstanding claim to a group of students who came up with the idea themselves since we can't trust them (not a reliable, secondary source) to have done the research to verify such a claim. I also has the aforementioned Easter egg issue where the name of the game doesn't link to an article about the game but about Bangladeshi game development. So I struck ALT2. ALT1 is still missing that immediate cite per 3b as mentioned above. czar  15:35, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
  • Czar, now I got it. I have added an immediate citation for ALT1. Akib.H (talk) 16:26, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
ALT1 gtg. I'm not crazy about the reliability of the source used (author has a pseudonym and it looks like a fan site), but Rising Stars appears to be a publication of The Daily Star. czar  17:20, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
