Tomasz Berkieta (Polish: [ˈtɔmaʂ bɛrˈkjɛta]; born 21 July 2006) is a Polish tennis player.[1][2]
He was born in Warsaw,[3] and is coached by his mother. His mother played tennis herself until injury forced her to stop in her teens, and she later became a tennis coach. Immersed in the sport of tennis from a young age, the family took video footage of him playing with tennis racquets from 15 months old. As well as being coached by his mother, his father travels abroad with him for support.[4]
Berkieta reached the semi-finals of the Boys' singles at the 2023 Australian Open.[5] After a first-round defeat at the 2023 French Open Boys' singles, he performed better at the 2023 Wimbledon Boys' singles, reaching the quarterfinals,[6] with his run including a win in the third round against second seed Rodrigo Pacheco Méndez.[7][8] He also played Boys' doubles in the tournament alongside future singles winner Henry Searle.[9]
In September 2023, he made a winning debut for Poland in the Davis Cup, defeating Xavier Lawrence of Barbados in straight sets.[10]
Whilst playing at the 2024 Australian Open junior tournament, he hit a serve recorded at 233kmh, which was faster than any of the senior men had recorded in the tournament up to that point.[11]
