Project Kareti is a semi-canonical development extracted from the Prometheus film franchise. It is a small prospective planet used exclusively for research by Weyland Industries in conjunction with independent research groups.
The planet known as KOI-723.06; according to the company's astronomical database was discovered in the year 2068. Located approximately 739.5 light years from Earth, the planet has extensible propensity for alpha wave activity. It's a high candidate of researchers for terraforming and atmospheric conditioning, its attributes and chemical distribution establishes it as being preferred. Although it consists of high levels of Carbon dioxide, single celled lifeforms have been discovered.
Project Kareti is a runway project; meaning its origins are proprietary in nature and must remain in its most rarest state unless protocol procedural provide security solutions for further independent research. To date, there are 22 permanent parties stationed on Kareti.
The name Kareti is recognized in Earth geography as a sovereign city-state in the country of Nepal. The canonical title is uncertain, but is attributed to the relational business partner of Weyland Industries; the Yutani Corporation.
The most important objectives of the project are to maintain the original integrity of the Weyland Database and all of its intellectual properties and patents. This tremendously reduces the liability of conventional terraform projects which must incorporate voluminous safeguards such as astronautical mapping and other space related environmental issues.
The Project: Kareti Prime Directive Prospecive include:
As an emphasis to other incentives, the project encourages an open source independent contribution environment; in the same way any other open source community encourages general contributions. This area of the project is code named: Pangea; the theoretical name of the first landbase formation of the planet Earth. Pangea provides participants an opportunity to submit what is known as a Terraform Rendering Kit (TRK) for project inclusion. These kits consists of graphic files that map out the proposed newly terraformed surface of the planet; popular TRK's simply remap the Earth's surface, while more advanced ones may have a series of complex landbase layouts.
Weyland Industries also has many other populated planets in its corporate database, some of which host large cities and research complexes. Below is a brief overview of notable planets of the Weyland database.
