Courtesy note[edit]

Hello and welcome! I just wanted to mention that your Drafts are public, and as such you shouldn't include copy-pasted copyrighted material from other places even if you're going to remove them later on, since the copyrighted content sticks around in the revision history. May 2022[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Clarence Lee Evans, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. CollectiveSolidarity (talk) 20:02, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
@CollectiveSolidarity:, I see you reverted this edit stating “No categories in a redirect”. But take a look at Wikipedia:Redirect stating in the intro section “Redirect pages can contain other content below the redirect, such as redirect category templates, and category links (which provide a way to list article sections in categories).” 82.174.61.58 (talk) 20:10, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I guess you’re right because WP:Categorization does state “Every Wikipedia page should belong to at least one category, except for talk pages, redirects, and user pages, which may optionally be placed in categories where appropriate.” Go ahead then, but I’d link the redirect to the namesake section of the article so readers might not be confused with the inclusion of a ship in “1942 deaths”. Also, I highly recommend that you get an account eventually. It could help with giving you access to protected pages and the like. Cheers! @CollectiveSolidarity: thanks for your reply. For now I’m fine working under an IP, but yes, I’m thinking of getting back to an account but not now yet. 82.174.61.58 (talk) 21:07, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yeah, they can link towards categories, but it's not customary for redirects to have categories of their own. Only in exceptional cases. The reason for this is if you're redirecting from X to Y and you'd put X into cat A, why not put Y into cat A instead? Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 20:53, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

UTC)

@Amadeus1999: I think this is one of this exceptional cases. The redirect page is of a person (for instance in category born 1904) that links to a ship that is named after that person àmd the person’s bio is described on the page of the ship. To add the category “1904 births” to the ship page in not correct. 82.174.61.58 (talk) 21:11, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yes it would certainly be a sight to see a ship give birth. If what you say is true, we should make a page for the person on its own and make a disambiguation somewhere down the line. If the person meets the requirements for eligibility anyway, like notability and such Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 16:48, 7 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
