Fair use rationale for Image:Bride and preudice.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bride and preudice.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as ((fair use)) or ((fair use in|article name)), you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 19:02, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AC/DC article[edit]

Hey, We could really use your help on the AC/DC article again. The link's decision you handed down, which was agreed upon by all parties concerned many months ago, was removed anonymously from the talk page and consequently, more edit warring has begun. Now, we even have the same old problem of anonymous users coming in and changing the links all the time without even discussing it on the talk page. Could you possibly restore the agreed upon links and freeze the article or something to combat the vandals, which, incidentally, seem to have very similar ip addresses again? NCC17 21:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion was archived NCC17.
Sorry to bring this dispute to you again SoothingR, but a quick glance at the AC/DC talk page will show you what's going on. I suggest you warn NCC17 about his use of the anti-vandalism templates here and here on the talk pages of users who were by no means vandalising any articles whatsoever. Thank you for your time. ĤĶ51Łalk 22:04, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Previously, with your help, SooTHING, we agreed that a consensus should be reached and followed on the links section. We did that and the peace lasted for several months. Recently, however, HK51 has taken it upon himself to eliminate the previous agreement made and signed off on by a number of editors who have worked on the AC/DC article. All that you wrote was removed from the discussion page like it never even happened.

Not only that, but he's now even supporting anonymous users who edit the links portion of the article to his liking when it was clearly already established by you that users must be signed into Wikipedia and must discuss their changes prior to making them.

Indeed, it still says this at the header of the links section: "".

How this is not vandalism of the article is beyond me but, since these anonymous vandals always agree with HK51's edits, I can see why he might think it's okay. NCC17 05:46, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Soothing, the AC/DC talk page and NCC17's talk page will explain to you what's really going on. I support their opinion on what the links look like; but they should discuss on the talk page. I never outright stated I supported them whole-heartedly. ĤĶ51Łalk 11:48, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting a 3O for Flemish[edit]

I was wondering if I could get your perspective in the debate at Talk:Flemish as Dutch Wikipedian and an administrator. Since Flemish may refer to the Flemish people, Flemish (linguistics), or a number of topics related to Flanders, it seems natural that Flemish itself should be a disambiguation page. What's there now is a rather lengthy and confusing attempt to explain what the word Flemish means. Wikipedia has no real precedence for putting the explanation of a term as the primary topic, rather preferring an page like Macedonia (terminology) when the term itself is confusing enough to warrant a page explaining it.

I think this is just a misunderstanding of the purposes of primary topics and disambiguation pages. Several people have tried to explain that, but the opposing side tends to disregard it because they claim we don't sufficiently understand the issue. A particularly egregious and offensive example: "If you can't read and contribute to the Dutch, or French or German Wikipedias, please don't attempt to touch this article here in English Wikipedia, because you really lack knowledge to really understand how the term is defined and used."[1]

My hope is that you could take a look at the page as a person with credibility on both sides and help diffuse the situation. If you'd rather not get into this, I'd appreciate it if you could point me to someone else who would have sufficient perspective on the policies and practices of Wikipedia as well as the Flemish issue.  Anþony  talk  00:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

24.173.71.114[edit]

A while ago someone with the IP adress of 24.173.71.114 started vandalizing pages. Some of the toward the article of St. Stephen's Episcopal School Houston. The reason of that is because 24.173.71.114 is the school's IP adress therefor the vandizers are tens maybe hundreds of kids vandalizing on the school computers. As you may notice if you look at 24.173.71.114's contributions that some of them are very good constructive edits while others are wasteful vandalizm. I wouldn't suggest that you ban the account because you are taking away innocent editerd of rights but if you didn't ban the accountmore vandalizm would most likely follow. If you have any questions please respond here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.162.2.135 (talk) 04:08, 14 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Worldofwarcraftboxart.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Worldofwarcraftboxart.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:Arzte.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Arzte.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add ((Replaceable fair use disputed)), without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 05:22, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
