Hello there, welcome to the 'pedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you need pointers on how we title pages visit Wikipedia:Naming conventions or how to format them visit our manual of style. If you have any other questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help or add a question to the Village pump. Cheers! --maveric149
I'm a h2g2 veteran and I'm afraid that that will remain my primary site. (By the way, today h2g2 has published a new entry about Wikipedia on its home page!)
I want to contribute to Wikipedia nevertheless: I want to draw the maps for the celestial constellations. However, in contrast to h2g2, Wikipedia contains a lot more information, and it seems to be more accurate, too. So as a reader, I look forward to using Wikipedia.
I've already looked around a bit and think that I've understood the system by and large. But thank you for your welcome message!
Actually I was playing around with Sagittarius with the current image and it really doesn't seem to be that bad at lower res. --mav
Well it wasn't the greatest image downsizing I've done but I reduced the width of the Sagittarius image to 300 px. See the Wikipedia:Image use policy for why it is a good idea not to have images too wide. --mav
Hi Bronger, have you one of these very nice constellation map for Crux? -- looxix 21:09 Apr 2, 2003 (UTC)
Nice Maps!
The colours you've chosen are obvious and clear. I especially like the grey constellation names and the yellow border, which are sorta transparent and hence doesn't interfere with the stars. And on a white background? I must say I was amazed at first, and it fits with the white WP background so well. Do you enter all the star coordination manually? How long does it take to make one map? Or do you make several simultaneously? (Because I see other constellations cut-off.) --Menchi 18:55 May 8, 2003 (UTC)
On your picture of the Lepus (constellation) you state a copyright claim. You fail to say that it it GFDL and as such I do not know if I can use it for nl:wikipedia. Thanks, GerardM 06:23, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I've for long (a year, actually) been itched by the way Wikipedia-links are done with often sloppy distinctions between nationality, citizenship and ethnicity (with regard to persons) and also between nations and countries. This is particularly obvious in the case of people or entities that are denoted as German. A link to the Federal Republic of Germany is often outright unhistorical and wrong, but this has until now been the most usual.
Therefore I'm considering an article on Germans, which I've started at User:Ruhrjung/Germans. I would wish to avoid lots of edit wars. In particular, I would not wish to see the current disputes over German-Polish matters automatically extend also to this article, why I kindly ask you for comments now, in advance, in order to try to find wordings acceptable to as many as possible of concerned wikipedians.
I look forward to your comments at User talk:Ruhrjung/Germans.

Hi, Nachbar (in globalen Dimensionen - ich sitze an der Uni Köln:-)
Also, wenn ich mir automatisch verkleinertes Bild und die von Dir generierte Version nebeneinander angucke:
File:Aries constellation map small.png
--Magnus Manske 11:06, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)
Hi Torsten, I have a few correction for PP3's translations-fr.sed, how do you prefer that I send it to you? Also, have you still a copy of the version of the wiki.pp3 that you used to generated the maps in french?
All constellation but 3, have now a decent article with the maps included. Thanks again. -- Looxix 19:32, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Hello Torsten,
I'm sorry if this is stated somewhere obvious that I missed, but what is the quickest way for me to translate your constellation maps into another language (Hebrew in my case)? You can respond here or on my talk page. --Eitheladar 12:29, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Hi there! Thanks for adding the image Image:Mensa constellation map.png. It currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, and I was hoping that you would add one as untagged images may be deleted eventually. (You can use ((gfdl)) to license it under the GFDL, or ((fairuse)) if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks! --Diberri | Talk 23:36, Aug 31, 2004 (UTC)
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "((DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual))" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
OR
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "((DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual))" with "((MultiLicensePD))". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
Hi Torsten.
I'm working on the Numbers project and have enjoyed looking over the constellation maps you've created. However, the file Image:Sagittarius constellation map.png seems to be misbehaving. I'm able to load it outside Wikipedia using Quicktime, but on a page it just comes up blank. Any ideas?
Thanks, Denni☯ 18:32, 2004 Dec 30 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:University hospital aachen.jpg, and thanks also for getting and noting permission for use. Could you put some details of the sort of permission and, perhaps, who granted it on the image description page? And please check the copyright tag that I put on it to see if it accurately reflects the sort of permission granted. Thanks! - Kbh3rd 00:38, 7 Jan 2005 (UTC)
First of all, congratulations for your great work on mapping the constellations. I add this comment to let you know I think I have found a mistake in one of them, namely in the Aquila constellation map. Its brightest star, Altair, is written as Atair (I think). Hello,
Image:Lynx_constellation_map.png has an error. The area labeled LMi should be labeled Leo; LMi is the area above Leo (and immediately to the right of α Lyncis. -- Curps 00:10, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
Hi, I've listed Image:Leo constellation drawing.png and Image:Leo constellation drawing.jpg for deletion, since they aren't used on any page and its image tag is now considered "unfree". If you feel that these images should not be deleted, you can go to WP:IFD to voice your opinion. Thanks. :) Coffee 05:16, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
Hi Torsten,
You've listed this image as copyrighted to you, but did you actually create this in any kind of artistic sense? If not, and it was created by John Hevelius, and he died more than 100 years ago, it should have a Template:PD-art tag on it instead. Right now, it's in the copyright unknown category and may be speedily deleted at any point. moink 21:12, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I guessed that Image:Cetus constellation map.png is GFDL because your others are, please confirm on the image. Thanks! Stan 14:27, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
Hi I'm new to this talk on wiki, I would like to ask if I can have your permission to use the star map of Draco constellation on my website Holistic Fraternity as I've found that it fits perfectly over the ordnance survey map of the Ancient monument that I am trying to protect. I didn't have to alter the size either!
I created and uploaded a modified (negative) version of your Scorpius constellation map. I gave you full credit for the photo and included your copyright notice, as the image I created is merely a photo negative of your original photo.--Scorpius Rising 14:18, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
To my surprise, PP3 has been lacking its own article until now. I've started that, and created the category free astronomy software, too. I stole the program's logo from the website as well and claimed that it's licensed under the GDFL, but that's probably wrong. Please take a look. Thanks! SeL 02:15, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading Image:Torsten Bronger.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Thanks for uploading Image:RWTH-logo.png. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 23:53, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Will you please use the program with which you made the image Centaurus constellation map.png to make a vectorial version, preferably SVG, and after making the new image page on wiki commons, use this tag on your old image page: Template:Vector_version_available. --DynV (talk) 16:36, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
This file was moved to Commons from English Wikipedia, but some description information may have got lost in the process.
As you are noted as the original uploader, or in the history for the file, it would be appreciated if you could help in reconstructing this information.
Please also consider checking Commons for other media that you may have uploaded locally, but which was subsequently transferred.
Special:Log for uploads can help in this.
Thanks for you assistance and keep uploading 'free' media :)
Also very much appreciated if you could confirm the permissions you obtained for this image with the relevant people at commons.

Hi! Thank you for your hard work uploading pp3 star maps for each Constellation.
In the case of Centaurus, you've used an obscure name (as far as my assessment goes) for Alpha Centauri. It is usually referred to as Rigil Kentaurus, or perhaps, Rigil Kent.
Would you be able to generate the map again with one of those names? Many thanks.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Dyn (company) may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

dear Torsten Bronger,
I would very much like to add your map of the constellation hydra, that i found at wikimedia commons, to the cover of my forthcoming book - is that ok to you? I would of course refer to you in the way you prefer.
if you agree at all: the publisher needs 300dpi, if possible could you send me such a format?
that would be great! thank you / Karen Vintges — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.39.22.136 (talk) 14:57, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

In File:Lepus constellation map.png and the file derived from it used in R Leporis (File:R Leporis.png), I noticed that the diagram doesn't have the two lines, slightly tilted from vertical, going from one point in the top right corner to two stars; these lines, representing the ears of the Hare, were present in the images in the Lepus article (File:Lepus IAU.svg and File:LepusCC.jpg). Is there a reason for this lack in your image? Should it be fixed?
There were also two vertical lines that were present in the other images but not in yours, but since your diagram (the sideways H) links all these stars just as well as the more box-like diagrams that have more lines, I don't think that's a major problem.
Due to my real-life limitations, I probably won't be able to follow up on this, so if there is a reason why the "ear" lines shouldn't be drawn, would you please make a note of it in at least your image? Doing so in the other images would also be helpful. However, if you discover the "ear" lines should be there, please consider either uploading a new version of the image or to make a note in the images' body text explaining that this should be done.
I do prefer the clarity of your image. ☺ Thanks for all your hard work over so much time! —Geekdiva (talk) 12:09, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:RWTH-logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:04, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
First of all thank you very much for all the constellation maps - they are great.
Only one thing annoys me. The use of the small greek letter theta in the cursive form ϑ (U+03D1 GREEK THETA SYMBOL) instead of the normal form θ (U+03B8 GREEK SMALL LETTER THETA). On Bayer's own maps of the constellations he used θ to name the stars after his own Bayer designation to name stars.
In Wikipedia articles mention stars using the Bayer designation use θ for theta and not ϑ. So it is confusing when the constellation maps shows another letter for the "theta" stars. Agerskov (talk) 23:21, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
