Server

How do you put it on a server? ThanksThedjatclubrock :) (T/C) 20:57, 21 August 2007 (UTC).

You first need to get an account on a server. Or, you must run your own server. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 23:05, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Where is your server and how do you start your script? Where can I start a server?

PHP on WIki

Cobi, How do you use your PHP code on Wikipedia? I tried doing <?php echo "Something"; ?> just to test, but it didn't output that like it should. It just printed the whole command (with the <?php ?> tags). P.s. would appreciate if you could answer on my talk page JoshEdgar 20:34, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

You can't use PHP on Wikipedia. You must run it on your own server. ClueBot's code is run from Abscissa on ClueNet. ClueBot's code is meant to be run on the command line by typing "php cluebot.php" -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 01:56, 23 August 2007 (UTC) Copied to JoshEdgar's talk page.
Okay, well then let me rephrase. If I have a PHP script hosted at www.mysite.com/file.php, how do I include it in to wikipedia [for it to be a bot]? Also, is ClueBot open source anywhere? JoshEdgar 01:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
The PHP script can't be "included" onto Wikipedia without developer access to Wikipedia. The script needs to know how to interact with Wikipedia (the same way web browsers do). And, yes, User:ClueBot's source is available here. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 02:01, 23 August 2007 (UTC) Copied to JoshEdgar's talk page.
In the bad words part of your list, the array, what does "points" do? Just delete the bytes from the file? Or is it just how ClueBot senses vandalism? JoshEdgar 02:03, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Certain things that ClueBot isn't quite sure if it is vandalism or not (massive additions, mainly), it scores it against that list. If it matches a specific entry, then those points are added to the current points for that edit. If the points are below a certain threshold then it believes it to be vandalism. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 02:06, 23 August 2007 (UTC) Copied to JoshEdgar's talk page.
Sorry to bother you, this is hopefully my last question: What current things do Wiki need to have a bot made for? And do you know the best place to learn your kind of advanced PHP? I don't know anything past forms and MySQL/"if" stuff. JoshEdgar 02:07, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
PHP has the best online documentation of any programming language. If you look around their site, you can find anything you need to know about PHP. The rest is logic. As for the current things Wikipedia needs a bot for, please see the requests for work to be done by a bot. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 02:10, 23 August 2007 (UTC) Copied to JoshEdgar's talk page.

Cluebot warnings

Your bot gave me 2 warnings for changing an inappropriate hard redirect on Traumatic stress. Fix it. --EmpacherPuppet 01:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks, even though I already got a Welcome template. Oh, by the way, I just gave a whole buncha people welcome templates. Pretty fun to do, but thanks, man! AR Argon 05:28, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

False vandalism

I was editing your Bot source page by adding another serious swear word and then ChrisG comes in and removes it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.110.179.161 (talk) 08:13, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

That will not help. The bot source page is automatically generated by the bot, but the files are stored on the hard drive, not Wikipedia. Changing the Wikipedia copy will not do anything. Only changing the copy on the hard drive will make the bot do something else. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 07:09, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Bot

I presume that User:Vandalstopperbot is one of your anti-vandal bots? Just need confirmation, as it'll lead to disastrous consequences if not... --DarkFalls talk 11:08, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

It is not. My bots are the ClueBots (currently, ClueBot, ClueBot II, and ClueBot III. Future ones will be incrementing roman numerals). -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 17:48, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, nice bot. It's really good, it's pretty quick to remove most of the blanking vandalism. Delta40[talk] 10:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Accident

User:ClueBot reverted this edit which was not intended vandalism but merely a mistake on my part. I was trying to fix this gap but apparently I ruined the whole article. I use Opera (you have to refresh to see new things on a page because it has slow cache) and I rarely refresh to check my changes on Wikipedia, so I wasn't able to see that I had blanked the page until I read the notice on my talk page. -Gimme More 22:36, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Urgent Warhawk

The cluebot has done something I think to Warhawk (PlayStation 3 game)! The whole article is missing.--Playstationdude 12:55, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that, it was in an edit conflict with VoABot ... that's the first time I've ever seen it do that, though. I'll see what I can do. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 15:32, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

ClueBot

This bot is incredible my friend. I like RCPing and all, but I love to see it beat me to the punch sometimes :) --Amaraiel 18:29, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Creating a bot

Cobi, I would like to try and create a bot but I have no idea how to do it. Would you mind? Good work with Cluebot - it's picked up a vandal and I've slapped a "test3" warning on his talk page. !! Justa Punk !! 22:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

What kind of bot? -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 22:13, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm looking at a few, but at the moment one that puts a single message on several talk pages automatically instead of going to each page and manually editing. It's for another Wiki I'm a member of. !! Justa Punk !! 10:04, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks to Cluebot, but My Country, 'Tis of Thee needs Semi-protection

I have been watching My Country, 'Tis of Thee and it has been vandalized three times in just the last week or so. I reverted the first one, someone else did the second before I could get to it and Cluebot got the third almost instantantaneously. All of these three entries were from only IP addresses, nothing else. When someone deletes the entire article and leaves only a string of Fs and a string of Us, something needs to be done to protect the article. clariosophic 01:21, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I am, unfortunately, not an administrator. To request page protection, visit WP:RFPP. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 01:34, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

Bravo

Saw your bots' approval at the signpost, and took a look at their tasks (and that lovely exclusion list) and wanted to express my appreciation. Looks like your bots will be providing quite a bit of help. Thanks again! JPG-GR 03:22, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Help

ok i want to change an article and i try to link it and it goes to the wrong page(a person with the same name). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joebowman (talkcontribs) 23:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

Blarg

Like to apologize for my words on ClueBot IV's BRFA. Stress with dealing with people in RL was bleeding into Wikipedia so I took a short break. Cheers. Q T C 04:25, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Question

I ran across a rash of IP addresses edit warring, and the torstatus link ids them as "Tor exit nodes". I reported them all to AIV, and they were blocked for a couple of days each. Should I report them on WP:OP as well? I'm not all that up on proxy knowledge. - Crockspot 23:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey there

Hi, Cobi... I'm working a couple bots of my own and was wondering if you'd be generous enough to let me port a couple of ClueBot's APIs to Java for my own use. Please reply on my talk page, thanks! east.718 at 18:09, September 25, 2007

Deploying Cluebot in another wiki

Hi Cobi, I run a couple of non WP wikis using mediawiki software - one is http://train.spottingworld.com and we've started having serious automated (0.9 probability) vandalism issues. I'm not hugely technical, so I can't judge if Cluebot is even able to be deployed there. Is there any chance you can give me guidance, please?

I don't want to deal with non WP matters on WP really, so my talk page on my own wiki is here. No need to register there unless you want, just let me know who you are as an IP user. Fiddle Faddle 07:28, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Many tks. A couple of extra questions over there. Not sure if you are checking, hence note here Fiddle Faddle 17:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Request

Good day to you, Coby, can i ask you a favor? Can you allow me to create individual articles of Maria-sama Ga Miteru characters like the one i edited a few days ago. I think i have enough informations to create one. Please reply me after you've readed this.OgasawaraSachiko 18:37, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

I am not sure what you are asking ... any one may create an article. -- Cobi(t|c|b|cn) 18:23, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
