Disambiguation link notification for January 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detectedthat when you recently edited SMART criteria, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Variations and Success rate. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 05:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, and thank you so much for your work. I noticed that you've been editing some health-related articles recently, and I don't know if that's just because I've been tagging a lot for adding links recently, or if it's a particular area of interest for you. If you like working on medicine-related articles, then I wanted to let you know that a bunch of us hang out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine. It's a good place to ask questions about good sources for medical content and appropriate writing style. Please consider putting the page on your watchlist, or stop by to say hello some time.

Also, since you're one of the best right now at adding links, and would you be willing to take on a slightly more complex task related to that? Category:All articles with too few wikilinks needs to be cleaned out about every couple other day right now. This just means checking each article to see whether several people have had a go at adding links, and whether it feels like enough links have been added. If it does, then please remove the banner at the top about it still needing more links. That will keep others from trying to "fix" an article that already has enough (very frustrating and confusing, especially if it's your first-ever attempt to edit). If you want, you can also click the 'thank' button on the article's history page for anyone who seems to have done the right thing. As I'm sure you have experienced, that lets people know not only that their work is appreciated, but also that they did it right. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:06, 16 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you for your warm welcome and kind words. As a new editor, it's reassuring for me to hear that I'm able to make a contribution. Actually, I edit the articles under "general science" which pop into my feed and tend to select those topics which provide an opportunity to "link and learn". As a happy coincidence, most of these articles seem to be health-related. I appreciate you bringing to my attention the Wiki group who have a special interest in medical content. I will stop by to take a look. Happy to get involved in the monitoring task you mentioned. In the interest of full disclosure, I don't have a medical background but am a generally curious person. I don't really have a medical background either, and that's fine. This group has everyone: teenagers, retired people, patients, family members, healthcare professionals, students, and caregivers. I think you'll fit right in.  :-) WhatamIdoing (talk) 15:42, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hello WhatamIdoing, I'm happy to share that I've reached my first milestone—30 days and 500 edits! With some basic editing experience in areas like telecommunications and energy, I'd like to revisit your request. You know what's been a refreshing change of pace? Engaging in a bit of medical article linking while also updating technology-themed articles. So, if you still need a hand, whether it's tidying up linking tags or anything else, feel free to reach out. I joined as an editor to contribute wherever I can, and I'm finding the process quite a lot of fun. HerBauhaus (talk) 04:32, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Congratulations on reaching that milestone! I think the next big one is at six months, when you get access to Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library (free online access to some sources that are normally WP:PAYWALLED).
Yes, I'd be happy if you could keep an eye on that category for the next few weeks. The ((underlinked)) tag usually needs to be on the page for about 24–48 hours. I usually check the article's history. A short article usually benefits from having links added (or adjusted) by a couple of people, and a longer article might benefit from up to a dozen editors, so if enough people have edited it, then I pull the tag. Even if you only check one article in the list each day, that would help keep the content fresh for people adding links. (I like to thank some of the people who added good links, but that's optional.)
In theory, Special:Homepage will start auto-detecting articles that need more links before long. When that happens, we won't have to manually tag or remove articles. WhatamIdoing (talk) 15:59, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi HerBauhaus, per this discussion, [1], I'd ask that you read MOS:OL, with regards to adding links indicriminately to words that are commonly understood, to names of major cities, countries, etc. Thank you, 2601:19E:4180:6D50:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:22, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Mastery of a new skill requires perseverance and patience while on the learning curve. Feedback supports the acceleration of learning. Thank you for pointing out MOS:OL. HerBauhaus (talk) 06:27, 18 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
