AE is not a viable alternative route. AE will cause more problems than it will solve. There are systematic problems at play here, and targeting one or another editor is that last thing that needs to be done. It will result in more battleground behaviour, and more problems across the article. MVBW has been saying that there is "nothing wrong with the article" for ages, and even the DRN volunteer did not buy it. I agree that the article isn't in horrid shape, but the problem is that the talk page environment there is absolutely despicable. This is not a problem that can be resolved by filing AE reports. If one involved party files an AE report against one other involved party, the result will be tribalist sniping across many Ukraine-related articles, and an increase in tensions. It is the equivalent of a declaration of war. That's the last thing we need. Whilst the locus of the dispute is the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 article, as I said before, there is spillover across Ukraine conflict articles. Asking anyone to file an AE request is asking for trouble. RGloucester — ☎ 16:31, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

The page sums it up: Enough is enough, indeed. April complaint listing every other instance. In many instance, one of the parties reports new editors to AIAV citing they are banned without warning them or after one revert. The fact that this bans five years certainly gives me reason to support your view.

Hello Salvio,
I was wondering if you would have a look at this diff from Courcelles where I was having a discussion with him on his talk page in this thread. He is traveling right now with limited Internet access, and suggested that I bring this to you and NF. Also I noticed your talk header; I do hope that your health issues are not serious, and that they are temporary. Get well soon, and Best, — Ched : ? 19:36, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
Anyway, I have read the discussion you link to and though I know ArbCom used to do "valued editor" FOF, from what I've gathered, we stopped doing that a while ago and, in my opinion, that's for the best (and something like that now would probably be perceived as strange). My point is that I don't think a. it's our job to do that and b. we have the authority to do that. We are not there to commend anybody, we are not even there to punish anyone; we are merely there to do what's strictly necessary to stop ongoing disruption and nothing else. I could probably see us passing a "valued contributor" FOF when that "status" is immediately relevant to the decision, i.e., for instance, should we use it as an extenuating circumstance (and, even then, we don't usually do that, cf. the GGTF case, where we chose not to ban Eric owing to his contributions, but did not explicitly stated we were doing so, or the GamerGate case, where some editors have been sanctioned more leniently because they were upholding Wikipedia's policies, but this was not explicitly stated anywhere on the decision page). Salvio Let's talk about it! 10:34, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
That said, yes, on this issue we hold opposite opinions; I do realise that I'm being quite severe, but I'm doing what I think will be best to stop disruption and to protect the project.
Concerning my health, I'm mostly well, now, but I still occasionally may have to disappear for a few days at a time and, so, it's fair to alert those who leave a message on my talk page that I may not always be in a position to reply quickly. Salvio Let's talk about it! 10:57, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
My user page found one more admirer, who seems to like it so much that he copied it (+ several others) to his. Protest ;) - my infobox is unique! I am probably the only criminal admonished without a warning, and proud of it ;) - Seriously: what can we do? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:48, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

As your name appears on Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to consider placing self-requested blocks, you may sign at the newly revamped Wikipedia:Block on demand page, along with comments and a link to your requirements page, if any. I hope I did not err in sort of reviving that page. Thanks, SD0001 (talk) 15:02, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

I have received an email request that is in agreement with the notice on Dreadstar's talk page. The request is that all messages be removed from his talk. It also acknowledges that he has seen the notice. Is there a way I can honor his request without being smacked as well? — Ched : ? 22:15, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
unblock decision
Thank you for assuming good faith in an unblock decision, saying "There are people who have gathered to lynch an editor they dislike and others debating linguistics, while only very few are discussing the actual merits of the block itself." and "blocks are not supposed to be punitive", - repeating: you are an awesome Wikipedian!
