24.13.232.223 00:20, 14 October 2006 (UTC) Using the source of Wikipedia is although very helpful, quite a risk too. Think about it, you want to right an essay on the subject of Costa Rica for example. How can you be positive that someone has not edited this article to make it false or inaccurate? You can't be positive. For example, I experimented with this by trying to edit an article about Costa Rica. I was able to change many facts about Costa Rica so it was obvious that they were untrue. Although, I changed it back correctly because I was just trying to make a point, not many people do that. However, then again, Wikipedia isn't all that different from many other websites out there. Anyone can get on the internet and create websites with bogus and outrageous facts. Wikipedia often does provide correct helpful information, but always veryify the information found on this website with another source.[reply]

Henrik Hagtvedt[edit]

This request for creation has been reviewed. The result is below.

Henrik Hagtvedt is a Norwegian visual artist (born January 6, 1971 in Sandefjord, Norway) working predominantly with acrylics and oils, as well as with sculpture, graphics, and other media. In the years following his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy, his work had a rapid rise to fame and was exhibited in a number of galleries in Europe and Asia, ranging from the Museo Montelupo in Italy to the Cultural Foundation (national gallery) in the United Arab Emirates. Although he has painted in a variety of styles, from abstract to photo realism, Henrik Hagtvedt is most famous for a thickly textured and highly expressive style which gained him a great deal of critical acclaim and media attention early in his career. It was presumably this style that earned him the nickname “The Northern Light”, first given to him in Italy. However, little time elapsed before Hagtvedt began declining exhibitions and distancing himself from the contemporary art scene, thus disappearing somewhat enigmatically from both the public eye and from mainstream art institutions, almost as suddenly as he had appeared upon the scene some years earlier.

The album was released on popular demand, following Vinton's million-selling single "My Melody of Love" (his first single in two years, which proved a successful comeback and earned Vinton the nickname "the Polish Prince"). After the song became a #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a #1 adult contemporary hit, the semi-eponymous album was released, reaching #16 on the Billboard Hot 200 list of popular albums and going gold.

"My Melody of Love" is the first track on the album and is the album's sole single. Cover versions include Olivia Newton-John's hit "I Honestly Love You" and Alice Faye's "You'll Never Know."

Academy Award Performance: And the Envelope, Please was Maureen McGovern's third studio album, released in 1975. It was her last album for 20th Century Records.

Primarily a cover album, this album is completely devoted to Oscar-winning movie themes from the 1930s to 1974; it capitalizes the fact it took McGovern only one year to introduce a second Oscar-winning song. The oldest movie theme is "Lullaby of Broadway" (from the film Gold Diggers of 1935). The fourth track is a medley of "When You Wish Upon a Star" (from the 1940 animated film Pinocchio) and "Over the Rainbow" (from The Wizard of Oz). Strangely, the album begins with just thirty seconds of the song "Thanks for the Memory" and fades into the next song ("The Continental"). "Thanks for the Memory" is also the last track on the album and continues where it left off but (oddly enough) fades immediately after the next verse.

There were two singles to come from this album: "We May Never Love Like This Again" (from The Towering Inferno, which was a minor hit for McGovern one year before) and "The Continental" (from The Gay Divorcee).

Track listing[edit]

Side one[edit]
  1. Thanks for the Memory [From the movie "Big Broadcast of 1938"] - (Leon Robin, Ralph Rainger) - 0:34

  3. For All We Know [From "Lovers and Other Strangers"] - (Fred Karlin, R. Wilson, A. James) - 3:27

  5. Lullaby of Broadway [From the movie "Gold Diggers of 1935"] - (Harry Warren, Al Dubin) - 3:03
  6. The Morning After [From the movie "The Poseidon Adventure"] - (Al Kasha, Joel Hirschhorn) - 2:20
Side two[edit]
  1. The Windmills of Your Mind [From the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair"] - (Michel LeGrand, Alan & Marilyn Bergman) - 3:02
  2. Swingin' on a Star [From the movie "Going My Way"] - (Johnny Burke, Jimmy Van Heusen) - 2:47
  3. All the Way [From the movie "The Joker Is Wild"] - (Sammy Cahn, James Van Heusen) - 2:19
  4. We May Never Love Like This Again [From the movie "The Towering Inferno"] - (Al Kasha, Joel Hirschhorn) - 2:10
  5. You'll Never Know [From the movie "Hello, Frisco, Hello"] - (Harry Warren, Mack Gordon) - 2:40

Chainline[edit]

This request for creation has been reviewed. The result is below.

Chainline is the angle of a bicycle chain relative to the centerline of the bike's frame. A bicycle is said to have perfect chainline if the chain is parallel to the frame, which means that the rear sprocket is directly behind the front sprocket. Chainline also refers to the distance between a sprocket and the centerline of the bike.

Bicycles with straighter chainline are more efficient due to the frictional losses incurred by running the chain straight around both sprockets but at an angle between them. This is the main reason that a single-speed bicycle is more efficient than a derailleur geared bicycle which is shifted into an identical gear combination. Single-speed bicycles must have the straightest possible chainline in order to prevent the chain from falling off. This is particularly important for fixed-gear bicycles, because chain derailment can cause such a bike's rear wheel to lock.

Funnelback is both an enterprise search engine and the name of the company selling the technology. Funnelback is used by many Australian universities and government organisations to search for information on their websites, intranets, file-shares and databases.

History[edit]

It was originally developed by the CSIRO as part of a research project, then called P@noptic. The initial design and development was headed up by Dr David Hawking, a world reknown researcher on search technologies. With it's initial launch in 2001 as P@noptic, and with the research weight of CSIRO behind it, it quickly attracted some high profile clients. With it's rapid commercial success, it was spun off from the CSIRO as it's own company in February 2006.

Research[edit]

Despite being spun-off from CSIRO, it still retains close research links with them and jointly publishes papers. Research is currently underway in the areas of search types, subject-specific search, realistic applications of metasearch, topic distillation, website searchability and search in support of e-commerce.

Technology[edit]

The core of the system is based around the Padre engine developed by the CSIRO to perform very fast data look-ups.

It has the ability to search a range of formats in addition to range of html files. These include .pdf, .doc, .xsl, images, xml. It also has the ability to connect to, and index databases. Adapters currently exist for MYSQL and TRIM, and the design of the system allows users to create their own adapters should they not exist. It works on Window and Linux, and there is also a hosted service available.

Awards[edit]

The Panoptic search engine has been widely recognised as a leader in its field. Panoptic has been awarded:

2003 Network Computing Editor’s Choice Award

2004 Network Computing Well Connected Award

ESATA

feyukeridi yuketa esata

For the complete language description, go to the link at the bottom of this page.

Esata is a newly designed 'constructed language.' It is a bare bones version of the English language, which has also been internationalized to a high degree. In the target language, Esata is a 'phrase word' meaning 'know (how to) speak.' In Esata a compromise is being sought between the now globally dominant English, and the rest of the world's major languages. Many people have studied English and can speak it well, but millions of others who do not have the time or the educational background are also speaking it, badly. Less competent speakers of English represent an ever increasing user group. Eventually, we can expect that the numbers of those who speak some Creole or corrupted version of English will predominate over those who speak it well. In this context Esata is proposed as the basis for a standard internationalized 'creole English', an attempt to gain control over the 'vulgarized' form of the language, and influence its future.

There are several features of Esata that should interest researchers in the area of artificial languages. It is regular and highly compact, with text lengths considerably shorter than those of English. A novel feature is the use of 'phrase words' abbreviated forms allowing definition of new vocabulary and concepts, both from English and from all the world's major languages. Esata also contains an (optional) new alphabet, which can represent up to 4 normal letters in a compact yet easy to read matrix.

Words are formed from syllables of consonant plus vowel. The normal English alphabet is used, but vowels have only one sound, and some consonants have different sounds (c as ch, x as sh).

Here are some examples of phrases in Esata:

hubiyu who are you? wobixi where is she? vayuti what do you think? bidara is that right? hobihiko how is he coming? weyovisa when will I know? biherelanu Is it running like new?

for the primary list, short forms of English are used. When a word from another language is more concise, it is usually preferred. Approximately half of the vocabulary of Esata is from foreign sources, making the language very international.

A special feature of Esata is the use of 'phrase words', which are contractions of several one syllable words into a short form. Using a prefix syllable, which serves as a language qualifier, up to 100 different language origens can be defined, each with an associated list of 10,000 phrase words, so in principle up to a million foreign phrase words are definable. Other phrase words based on two syllable Esata words allow for definition of several million other special purpose expressions, many of which can replace conventional vocabulary.

In the examples below, the prefix letter 'e' indicates English egoge go get - fetch emunu must new - urgent renewal ejasi God see - omniscience epama past man - predecessor epoci power drink - alcohol efasi far see - telescope esohu some who - someone emalu man place - eg. men's club ewobi where be - location ebagu bad good - pro and contra ehogo how go - means of transport ekuko could come - might happen etiso think some - reflect

The grammar of Esata is quite straightforward, based primarily on English. In the language description online there are complete details and an adequate set of vocabulary. Anyone interested in trying the language can learn quickly the 'primary meanings list' given below consisting of all the one syllable words. From this list you can make your own sentences and phrase words as in the example above, and experiment with the language. Esata is a 'personal language', meaning you can use it to communicate easily with your friends, but others will not be able to understand you.

This is the kernel of the Esata language, the primary meanings list. In most cases syllables are close to their English equivalents. In some cases no English word with a similar sound was found, and so a foreign source word was adopted.

By Kellie Gasink, Esq

For those of us who spent our childhood from ages 12 to 22 entirely in the 1980’s, this summer some of us had the pleasure of being reminded of our 20th year high school reunion. Some of us preferred to keep the past in the past and others of us never left the past in the first instance. Upon reflection, it seems that we are not really Generation X, but rather we are a generation Slip Sliding Away.

Chalking is a new age form of vandalism. It was started in Waukesha, WI around the 20th of September 2006. This is serial vandalism because the felon's signature is always the quote "Greetings from planet Klingon!" and signed K.S. or Alfred E. Neumann. Though it is thought to be committed by amateurs, they are highly organized and very well planned. The victims are "Chalked" between the hours of 9 - 11 pm. Random messages, pictures, inside jokes, and even gifts are left.

The culprit has yet to be caught, but has chalked 11 people as of today.

Family Troubles (Our Gang short)[edit]

This request for creation has been reviewed. The result is below.

Family Troubles is a one-reel comedy short subject and is an episode of the Our Gang series. It was released to theatres on April 3, 1943, produced by Loew's Incorporated for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and directed by Herbert Glazer.

The film casts Janet Burston in the lead role and co-stars Billy "Froggy" Laughlin, Robert Blake, Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas, Mickey Laughlin (Froggy's younger brother, who is given the nickname of "Happy"), Dickie Hall (as a kid who witnesses the gang helping Janet leave home) and teenager Beverly Hudson as Janet's sister Aurelia. Adult actors include Sarah Padden and Harry C. Bradley as Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones, Barbara Bedford and Byron Shores as Janet's parents Mary and Jasper, and Elspeth Dudgeon as Aunt Aurelia (who Janet's sister was named after).

Plot summary[edit]

((spoiler))

Janet feels that her parents don't love her anymore, as her sister, Aurelia, is always being doted upon. When her parents made Aurelia the definite center of attention (Aurelia sang a song and their father played the guitar) during her aunt's visit, it was the last straw. Filled with anger and despair, Janet decides to run away from home. The gang volunteers to help Janet become "adapted" by another couple and choose Mr. and Mrs. Jones as potential candidates.

However, the Joneses immediately discover that Janet is a runaway and decide to teach her and the gang a lesson. They agree to adopt her, but make her life twice as miserable by making her scrub the floors (Janet bawls, "Why did I ever leave home?"). When Mrs. Jones leaves the room to call Janet's parents, Janet and the gang run away again to live in their hideout (which is a nearby cave). They soon discover that living in the cave is no easier, so they bring Janet back home.

Janet's family now realize how fortunate they are to have her. Her mother apologizes for being neglectful and unfeeling towards her and assures that it will never happen again. With everything happy, Froggy says, "All's well that ends well, I always say." Janet's father corrects him, saying that his phrase was originally made by Shakespeare. "He did? Shucks!" answers a disappointed Froggy.

Trivia[edit]

The song that Janet's sister sings for her aunt is entitled "She May Have Seen Better Days." It was written by James Thornton, published in 1894, and was a hit in 1896 for George J. Gaskin.

Hans Holbein the Younger[edit]

This request for creation has been reviewed. The result is below.
If your request was declined and you want to make changes and try again, copy and paste your article into a new submission and make your changes there.

Hans Holbein the Younger (1497-1543). Born in Augsburg, Bavaria, Hans received his first lessons in art from his father. In 1515 the younger Holbein went to Basel, Switzerland, with his brother, Ambrosius. Among the many scholars living in Basel at that time was the famous Dutch humanist Erasmus, who befriended the young artist and asked him to illustrate his satire, Encomium Moriae (The Praise of Folly). Holbein also illustrated other books, including Martin Luther's German translation of the Bible. In addition he painted pictures and portraits and, like his father, designed stained-glass windows. He also created designs for a series of 41 woodcuts called The Dance of Death.

About 1525 the factional strife that accompanied the Reformation made Basel a difficult place for an artist to work. In 1526 Holbein, carrying a letter of introduction from Erasmus to the English statesman and author Sir Thomas More, set out for London. He met with a favorable reception in England and stayed there for two years. In 1528 he returned to Basel, where he painted portraits and murals for the town hall. In 1532 he left his wife and children there and traveled once again to London.

In England, where he became court painter to Henry VIII, Holbein was known chiefly as a painter of portraits. His services were much in demand. The more than 100 miniature and full-size portraits he completed at Henry's court provide a remarkable document of that colorful period. An old account of his services at court relates that he painted the portrait of the king, "life size, so well that everyone who looks is astonished, since it seems to live as if it moved its head and limbs." In spite of their richness of detail, Holbein's portraits provide remarkably little insight into the personality and character of the people he painted.

Holbein also found time to perform numerous services for Henry. He designed the king's state robes and made drawings that were the basis of all kinds of items used by the royal household, from buttons to bridles to bookbindings. In 1539, when Henry was thinking of marrying Anne of Cleves, he sent Holbein to paint her portrait. In 1543 Holbein was in London working on another portrait of the king when he died, a victim of the plague.
