I did some research on this and I could not find proof of this battle. Tipu Sultan seems to have been somewhere else when this so called battle is proposed to have happened. According to this source Haripant marched onto Gajendragad, where the fort surrendered (page 53)[1]. No details are given on the nature of the supposed surrender. There are no details of a fight between the Marathas and Tipu Sultan here. As suggested from this source, Tipu Sultan could not have engaged with the Marathas at Gajendragad as he was busy advancing on Adoni (Siege of Adoni) (see page 53)[2]. Was it simply a surrender or did an actual battle happen? This is an important question. Since I do not see evidence of a battle occurring, I do not see the point of keeping it. The 100,000 and 80,000 figures also seem implausible. Also, do not associate the so called "Battle of Gajendragad (1786)" with the so called "Treaty of Gajendragad (1787)" as the peace agreement (that some sources call the "Treaty of Gajendragad") follows the Siege of Bahadur Benda, and is not related to the so called Battle of Gajendragad. • Comment - Mention here in article about history of Pune and appears on a school exam asking which year it took place. Conceivably they could have gotten their info from Wikipedia... • Comment: I'm bothered that this isn't the first AfD [3] from the nom where his deletion rationale wrapped around his attempt to debunk the battle. Whether an event has happened or not, or whether a faction can claim that it's "propaganda," is not a valid deletion rationale -- it's whether the event is mentioned in reliable sources. If it's a hoax or poor history, that's a content dispute, not appropriate for AfD. (It's also a matter of concern that the nom just got a block for edit warring on Hindu-vs-Muslim grounds.) • Comment: I, too, am deeply perturbed by this user's behaviour; from his recent edits, it seems that quite recently he has continued to remove vast amounts of information from various articles without explanation (see [4][5][6]), repeatedly edit-warring with numerous other editors in blatant disregard of their input and sysop warnings (see [7]), not to mention he is still the subject of arbitration elsewhere. I am also unsure if it is even entirely appropriate to continue the discussion given the nominator himself has been blocked and as such cannot defend his rationale further by contributing to this discussion. • Redirect to Gajendragarh. That article records that events took place, involving a treaty and the capture and recapture of a town. Little is said of the nature of the events, but it is considerably fuller than this article. I suspect that this article was created so that it could populate a battles template, but that begs the question of what kind of fighting took place (if any). • Delete (or redirect if you want) - I'm always suspicious of allegedly historical battles involving exactly 180,000 men, which often are mere propaganda. "Saul killed 1000 men, but David killed 10,000." Even if this happened, because it had no lasting effect, it is likely to be exaggerated. Fails WP:V and WP:TNT.
