Wikipedia is not a directory or an indiscriminate collection of instrument repertoires. This article claims to try and "present a representative sampling of the most commonly played and well-known works in the genre", but Wikipedia's goal isn't to provide flautists with a list of what to play. It is supposed to present readers with an encyclopedic overview of the flute's use in the orchestra, something that can be achieved with a concise section on the Western concert flute article.

For the page navigation of flute music, Category:Compositions for flute will suffice rather than a crufty list that may contain only twenty or so actually notable pieces.

I'm renominating, as the RfC discussed to deal with these articles also ended in no consensus. I have no prejudice with the title and using it to write something akin to Euphonium repertoire, but a simple list doesn't work. Why? I Ask (talk) 14:39, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  Because it is pure listcruft. It lacks proper selection criteria. If you were to call a piece repertoire, then it needs sourcing. If you want to purely be for navigational purposes, then I could see that. But in that case, most entries would be removed to about 25 or so. Why? I Ask (talk) 16:27, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  What do you mean by listify? It is already a list. And yes, it is currently indiscriminate, lacking sources or reasons for inclusion. Merely existing is not suitable for being listed in a repertoire list. The last one was a no consensus turn-out as people wanted to hold an RfC that also ended in no consensus. Why?   Yes, it's a list. It is literally formatted as a list. The lede says "these lists". There is no requirement for it to be called "List of..." to be a list. How the heck are you going to "listify" something that is already a functional list.

  You won't find sources for pretty much all of them. For example, if I look up "Monroe in Summer" by Grundman or "Saint Francis and the Animals" by Buss, the top results on Google are either places to buy sheet music, this article, or the author's website. These lists become collections of non-notable pieces by minor composers. You're welcome to add back pieces so long as the WP:BURDEN is met (e.g., a reliable source discussion the piece in full). Why?
