J-Urban[edit]

The nominator, 220.253.8.139 (talk · contribs), writes: There is no such term as "J-Ubarn, J-hiphop, J-soul, J-rock" or whatever. This article is POV, and utter nonsense. Furthermore there are no references, and the term is not used in Japan for music at all. In fact, J-urban is a term used by design company Sumimoto.

Any Japanese popular musician is classified as J-pop in Japan, they are then sorted into their main genres. Such as the group Orange Range being listed as Pop/Rock/Mixture by HMV [1], the largest retailer of music in Japan.

Merge to J-pop. . . although that article needs some improvement as well. I cannot find reliable sources to independently establish j-urban's notability, although it certainly is a phrase in common use. However, I am confident in its (J-pop's) basic notability, and there is plenty or space in that article to accommodate treatment of what appears in the absence of sources to the contrary to me to be a sub-genre. I suspect that for obvious reason the earliest treatment by reliable sources would be in the Japanese language. I'll list this with WP:Japan to see if any of those guys can weigh in. Merge to J-pop I've never lived in Japan so I don't know what their culture is like over there, but if there's J-Pop and people are so into it, I don't understand why you say there can't be other genres. Yet at the same time, I don't see people saying T-Urban or T-Rock or T-Soul or C-Urban or C-Rock or C-Soul. I agree with what has been said by the previous posters: it should be merged with J-Pop, and let's not forget to get rid of the list if we get rid of this article. However popular the term may seem, Google brings up just 44,000 hits for it and over a million for J-Pop (I will admit that article needs help as well). ― 金魚花火 05:23, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
