Villa Il Palmerino[edit]

No indication why this would be a notable villa, all that is left after sources not about this villa have been removed is a doctoral thesis (i.e. an unpublished sourced) and a passing mention in a book. Looking for sources reveals other sources stating that Vernon Lee lived in a villa called Il Palmerino, and that's it. Fram (talk) 14:09, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well there's a lot out there in Italian, which doesn't do me much good since I can barely speak English sometimes. But if it's primarily known for being the home of Vernon Lee, why should we ever want to delete it instead of redirecting, and using what sources we have on the currently unsourced paragraph there talking about the villa? Keep, I think. I re-wrote this, which was originally created as a coatrack for content about Mary Farhill, who according to all reliable sources actually lived at the much grander Villa Palmieri, some three kilometres to the west of this one. I did that on the assumption that it was notable – though by no means among the most celebrated of the dozens/hundreds? of such villas overlooking Florence from the hills below Fiesole – mainly as the home of Violet Paget. Some more non-passing mentions of the villa:
- According to this apparently reliable source, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site (perhaps they mean that it is part of one? – it isn't among those listed here)
- This conference, organised by the Regione Toscana, the British Council, the Gabinetto Vieusseux and the Associazione Culturale Il Palmerino, was partly held at the villa
- According to this page, visitors to the house have included Rainer Maria Rilke, André Gide, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Berthe [fr] and André Noufflard [fr], and John Singer Sargent; of course they weren't really visiting the house, but Paget. Berenson was there a lot too, for the same reason.

The main source for the page is a doctoral thesis. A doctoral thesis is a reliable source for our purposes; as it happens, this one is published, by the University of Bristol, on its website. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:19, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
