Operator: Rifleman_82

Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic, supervised

Programming Language(s): AWB

Function Summary: In Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemistry, we sometimes have a large number of articles to tag. Right now, we're trying to manually remove all the ((ChemicalSources)) which we have discussed and agreed to be obsolete. There are 3000+ outstanding articles, so a bot is more productive than manual clicking. This is the sort of work this bot will be for.

Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run, for each function.

Edit rate requested: Not defined. 1-2 edits/min.

Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N

Function Details: As above

Discussion

[edit]

What edit rate will the bot be running at? Will the bot have any other tasks to do after it has finished removing the tags? Other than that, the bot sounds fine. Sebi [talk] 08:37, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, Rifleman 82, you need to edit this page to confirm that you are the operator. Sebi [talk] 09:26, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rate should be about 1-2 edits/min. Bot has no other tasks than ((ChemicalSources)) at this moment. However, if and when there are other tasks, they will be of a similar nature - mass tagging/untagging etc. for chemistry-related articles, exclusively with AWB. --Rifleman 82 18:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Approved for trial. Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. make about 50 edits. --ST47Talk 13:32, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. I'm now waiting for my bot to be added to AWB users, and AWB bots before doing the trial in the manner I intend to use the bot. --Rifleman 82 15:49, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
AWB Bot Approved [1]. Reedy Boy 15:58, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've run 50 or so edits for the trial. Comments so far? --Rifleman 82 16:53, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. Just out of curiosity: I was under the impression that you were going to replace ((ChemicalSources)) with ((Chembox new)). Wouldn't it be easier to let the bot do that instead of adding the new template in a separate step? -- S up? 09:02, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

((Chembox new)) is one-for-one replacement for ((Chembox)); ((ChemicalSources)) itself is a separate entity. Originally, it was supposed to call the CASREF string from Chembox, but this functionality has been fixed by ((Chembox new)), making it redundant. As for replacing ((Chembox)) with ((Chembox new)), that's a more involved problem which I will have to think about before running through with AWB. --Rifleman 82 10:49, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay. Thanks for clearing that up for me. -- S up? 21:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me do you want a bot flag w/ your wikifries? -- Tawker 05:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot flag? Yes please! --Rifleman 82 06:18, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

 Approved. by Tawker. --ST47Talk·Desk 15:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
