List of Cardiff City F.C. records and statistics[edit]

List of Cardiff City F.C. records and statistics (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Kosack (talk) 20:40, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

One of the Cardiff lists I haven't got around to until now finally being brought to FLC. I've based the format on the other promoted lists of club records and believe it's up to the same standard. I look forward to any comments. Kosack (talk) 20:40, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  • Most of the first paragraph of the lead needs refs
Most of the information is mentioned in the paragraph under the honours heading with references. I've added a ref under the part that's not. Let me know if you think I missed anything. Kosack (talk) 13:16, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • "The side won its first league honour by winning Southern Football League Second Division title" => "The side won its first league honour by winning THE Southern Football League Second Division title" - Done
  • "The club reached a third FA Cup final 82 years later, in 2008 " - lose the comma
  • "one less than Wrexham." => "one fewer than Wrexham." - Done
  • "Cardiff City's list of competition victories include" => "Cardiff City's list of competition victories includes" (the subject of the sentence is "list") - Done
  • Match records > firsts - some have an unnecessary full stop at the end - Done
  • First Welsh Cup match has a (incorrectly formatted) season listed rather than a specific date. I would have thought the date is known.......?
The only ref I have for this is the Welsh Football Data Archive site which only lists the rounds, not the actual dates. The site doesn't seem to allow for linking to individual seasons so the link goes to the season list. Kosack (talk) 13:16, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I have the complete Welsh Cup results book at home, let me look in that tonight and see if it gives the exact date -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:45, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I checked the book and annoyingly it doesn't have any match dates at all other than for the finals, so I guess we just have to go with the season. It should be re-formatted as 1907–08, though -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 21:00, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Shame, thanks for checking. I've amended the season now. Kosack (talk) 21:39, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Record results - again, lose the full stops - Done
  • Record results section has Third Division South, but the next section has Division Three South - be consistent - Done
  • Oldest player has "and" between the years and days whereas youngest doesn't. There's also a random full stop between the two refs - Done
  • "Competitive matches only, appearances as substitute in brackets" - are the sub appearances included in the unbracketed number or additional to it?
Expanded the note to clarify. Kosack (talk) 13:28, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • "Fastest hattrick: Alan Warboys 10 minutes" - add a dash here to be consistent with the line above - Done
  • "Figures correct as of end of 2018–19 season." - not a complete sentence so doesn't need a full stop - Done
  • "This list charts the top scoring season record for the club on the occasions it has been beat" => "This list charts the top scoring season record for the club on the occasions it has been beaten" - Done
  • Also, doesn't equalled have two Ls? - Done
  • "First player signed: Jack Evans, 1910 from Cwmparc" - earlier on a club called Cwm Parc was mentioned, is this the same club? If so, is it one word or two?
Amended the first usage further up. Kosack (talk) 13:35, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Chopra caption needs a ref to support the claim that he was a record signing for the club given that this doesn't appear in the table. - Done
  • "A match against Swansea Town on 27 August 1949 sold 60,855 tickets prior to the match but only 57, 510 attended the match" - random space in the second number - Done
  • FCHD ref under Bibliography lists no publisher/work, and the accessdate is in a different format to the rest of the ref
Converted into an inline cite. Kosack (talk) 13:35, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Think that's it from me -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:43, 25 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ChrisTheDude: Thanks very much for taking a look Chris. This one had quite a few niggly parts so apologies for that. Let me know if there's anything else. Kosack (talk) 13:35, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Sorry, one other very picky point - the article says the club was formed as Riverside, but the first Welsh Cup match says they played as Cardiff Riverside. So did they go Riverside > Cardiff Riverside > Cardiff City, or was the Welsh Cup match played under the name of simply Riverside? Told you it was picky ;-) -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:29, 27 February 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@ChrisTheDude: I don't believe Cardiff Riverside was the club's name at any point, none of the club history books I own or any other site hve any mention of it. Only the WFDA seem to use that term, so I've just gone with what the source states. Perhaps there was another team with Cardiff in the name that needed distinguishing.
