List of Milwaukee Brewers first-round draft picks[edit]

List of Milwaukee Brewers first-round draft picks (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): NatureBoyMD (talk) 17:48, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I believe it meets the description of a featured list. It is based on other featued "List of [MLB team] first-round draft picks" lists. NatureBoyMD (talk) 17:48, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • "two catchers were taken as well"
  • "California follows closely with nine players"
  • "Two Brewers first-round picks have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Robin Yount was elected in 1999 and Paul Molitor in 2004. The Brewers have retired Yount's number 19 and Molitor's number 4. Yount was named the American League Most Valuable Player in 1982 and 1989. Ryan Braun won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2007." - since this is about draft picks, it would be nice to mention when all of these players were drafted.
  • "Two Brewers first-round picks have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Robin Yount was elected in 1999 and Paul Molitor in 2004." - the second half is a sentence fragment. Change "Hall of Fame." (with a period) to "Hall of Fame:" (with a colon) to correct this.
  • "The Brewers have failed to sign three of their first-round picks," - comma should be a colon
  • General convention in these lists is that players who are still in baseball (i.e., if they are currently in the minor leagues) should be redlinked in case they do become notable at some point, even if they are not yet notable per WP:ATHLETE.
  • You have outfielder everywhere except for one "centerfielder". If it's staying that way, it should be spaced, but they aren't differentiated anywhere else, so just change to outfielder.
  • "for failure to sign" - should be for failing to sign; occurs twice in footnotes.
  • Add a "See also" link to Milwaukee Brewers minor league players, which may (should) cover some of the draft picks who will be redlinked.

Well done otherwise. KV5 (TalkPhils) 18:15, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

All done. NatureBoyMD (talk) 18:45, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Toolbox check

Will support once that's completed. KV5 (TalkPhils) 18:54, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alt text added to images. NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:33, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Using a person's name in the alt text doesn't help a person who doesn't know what that person actually looks like. The alt text guideline, linked above, provides more insight into that. I'd read over that and then check it out again. KV5 (TalkPhils) 20:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You might use the alt text at List of New York Mets first-round draft picks, a recently promoted FL, as a model to write the alt text for this one. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:32, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I think I've got the idea. How about now? NatureBoyMD (talk) 00:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Much better, though I think you've got a reference caught in Fielder's text. KV5 (TalkPhils) 01:08, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it back to the caption. Thanks. NatureBoyMD (talk) 01:09, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What, specifically, is wrong with it? I'd fix it, but don't know how. NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:33, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cap error. Fixed. KV5 (TalkPhils) 20:36, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Funny, it worked for me before and after KV's fix. NatureBoyMD (talk) 00:43, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Under Safari, "Pick" doesn't sort correctly after year is selected in ascending order. Once again this could be me being too strenuous on checking the sorting and having an odd browser but hey...
  • How do you know that's a batting lineup card in the alt text?
  • Would expect the pitchers to sort together, I don't believe there's a position called "right-handed pitcher" - it's just Pitcher so you need to ((SortKey)) these fellas...

The Rambling Man (talk) 19:39, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't expereinced any soring problems in IE8 or Chrome. I removed the part about the lineup card and changed the sort so pitchers are together. NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:24, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No I'm sure IE8 and Chrome are fine, but as I'm sure you're aware, not everyone in the interweb uses those two niche browsers (!)... perhaps you could attempt to replicate the problem, although I'm not sure it's possible for a PC user to do this... The Rambling Man (talk) 20:26, 17 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I checked it out in Safari. I haven't the slightest clue of how to fix it. Just click the "pick" sort button three times after sorting by year. NatureBoyMD (talk) 01:14, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps drop a note in at Help talk:Sorting? The Rambling Man (talk) 07:50, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I added ((sort)) to every number in the "pick" column. Now Safari doesn't put them in some crazy order like it did before. NatureBoyMD (talk) 15:55, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me. Well done for persevering. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:34, 19 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
