List of Minnesota North Stars head coaches[edit]

Nominator(s): -- L.A.K.ERS 03:36, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Too much to count how many head coach articles I've nominated for FL. Grammar, copy-edits, etc. can go directly to the article. -- L.A.K.ERS 03:36, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. -- L.A.K.ERS 23:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - I think the first paragraph doesn't flow very well because it doesn't quite follow chronological order. You should talk about the North Stars joining NHL before talking about the relocation and championships.—Chris! ct 20:07, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed paragraph. -- L.A.K.ERS 00:22, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
One problem still remains: the sentence "but lost in both Finals; the franchise did win a Stanley Cup after the relocation" comes before you mention the Stars' relocation. Dabomb87 (talk) 23:08, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
1980-81 and 1990-91 are before 1993 though... If it still bothers you, just be bold and move it. -- L.A.K.ERS 23:53, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I ended up deleting the phrase; I could not think of a way to rearrange it without disrupting the flow or confusing the reader. It's not vital information anyway; after all, this is an article about the coaches of the Stars team of Minnesota. Dabomb87 (talk) 03:29, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comments – Made one quick pass through the lead already, but have found a few more things I want to bring up before this is promoted.
 • "Minneapolis – St. Paul – Bloomington, Minnesota–Wisconsin." Weird to have different dash styles in the same sentence like this.
 • "as part of the Prince of Wales Conference championship in the 1980–81 season, and in the 1990–91 season after receiving the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl after winning the Western Conference playoffs." First part of this reads poorly; do you mean "as the Prince of Wales Conference champions"? Also repetition with the two "after -ings".
 • The head coach link looks like it has more to do with football than hockey. There is a Coach (ice hockey) article; it's a terrible page at the moment, but maybe someone reading one of these lists will see it and want to improve it.
 • I was trying to say that you could replace the head coach link with it. Up to personal preference, though.

 • "were also the general manager of the North Stars during their tenure as head coach." Make "tenure" plural.
 • "Glen Sonmor has served three terms as North Stars head coach." Drop "has". The North Stars aren't coming back to Minnesota, so this should be past tense.
 • "'Miracle on Ice' coach Herb Brooks". While all American sports fans know what the Miracle on Ice is, this will come off as jargon to a non-sports fan. Try starting the sentence with "1980 U.S. Olympic", and pipe the Miracle link.
 • "Sonmor and Gainey are the only head coaches to have been to the Stanley Cup Finals with the North Stars, in the 1981 and 1991 Stanley Cup Finals respectively." Instead of a somewhat awkward to read "to have been to", try shortening it with "to reach the". Also, there is needless repetition with "Stanley Cup Finals". Thought I changed this one, but it's still here. At least shorten the second one to just Finals.

Thanks for giving the only review. :D Just a small minor detail, but could you replace the "" with "–" on your username? Thanks in advance! NFL season already started. o.O -- L.A.K.ERS 23:30, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support – Good one. Nice to see a couple of coach/manager lists at FLC again. Giants2008 (17–14) 19:09, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Support, meets the criteria. Goodraise 18:11, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suppport Clearly a great list, one comment. Why is the key formatted that way, broken apart into three tables? Yes it makes it shorter vertically, but it's far more distracting to me. Also, are there really no other applicable images? Perhaps at least a better shot of Herb Brooks, perhaps from his time with the 02 Olympic team under governmental PD? It's worth hunting for, that table can be slimmed down to allow for images. Staxringold talkcontribs 01:26, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The key is broken into three tables since the key will be too long if it only has one table. I tried searching Herb Brooks on usa.gov, but found two images of what I think is him that are just too small. It would be nice if you could take some time to do so! -- L.A.K.ERS 01:37, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 1. Wren Blair and Charlie Burns are listed both as head coaches of the 1969–70 NHL season
Because Blair resigned as head coach during mid-season, and was replaced with Burns. -- L.A.K.ERS 17:49, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 1. Why don't you merge the em dashes with coach numbers? Ie. Wren Blair should have Games coached as 84 + 63 = 147.
