List of Philadelphia Flyers players[edit]

List of Philadelphia Flyers players (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Harrias (talk) 20:25, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I feel it meets all the FL criteria. It is based on existing ice hockey player lists, but I have added sortability to the tables. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this, the addition of SortKeys has made the article a lot larger and slightly slow to load, which is unfortunate. Harrias (talk) 20:25, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved comments from Anthony (talk) 14:33, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comments:
  • No mention is made of stats leaders, such as games played or goals scored. All the other hockey player FLs have that included somewhere in the lead.
    • Have added in a paragraph on this, it has no specific references as the information comes from the table, which is taken from the general references.
  • "of these Bill Barber and Bernie Parent had the most notable careers for the Flyers." - Unsourced and NPOV, should be removed.
    • Done: have provided the full list instead.
  • You might want to update the accessdates on the general reference websites.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Gagne and Timonen's names are not wikilinked on the photos along the side.
    • Done: added links.
  • Maybe include something about how many players are in the Flyers HOF, since it's in the table.
    • Done: added as suggested.
      • Upon further review of the Flyers HOF, I realize a few things. One, there's no source for any of the players' inductions into the Hall. Secondly, according to this article, there's actually 20 members, not 15. You can use the article as a source, but I'd update it to reflect the new info. Anthony (talk) 23:42, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • Thanks, I've been trying to find a RS for their inductions. Although there are 20 members, only 15 of those are players; the other five are made up of non-playing staff. Harrias (talk) 07:14, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • Done: added that reference in. Harrias (talk) 07:22, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Overall a good list, just missing a few things that are included in other lists. Fix these issues and I'll gladly support. Anthony (talk) 15:06, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments, I've made tweaks and additions as requested. Harrias (talk) 17:30, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Support - all comments have been addressed, and list is up to FL standards. Anthony (talk) 14:33, 22 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment – What makes the following sources reliable?
Removed hockeywriters and rauzulustreet, left flyershistory in for the sole reason that it is a supporting source to hockeydb; all the information is at hockeydb, but for a list of this size, it's nice to have a supporting source for the information. I can remove it if you feel it is necessary though. Harrias talk 09:04, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would personally feel better if the source was removed, as I feel much better about an article/list if the sources are solid. Maybe Hockey-Reference or another site has a good replacement you could use. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 15:14, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done: removed as source. Harrias talk 09:42, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now that the source comments are done, I'll look at the lead like I do for all the lists I review. Only found a couple things worth commenting on here:
  • The last sentence of the first paragraph, regarding expansion, could use a cite.
  • "with his 420 regular season and 563 playoffs goals." I believe "playoffs" should be singular in this case. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 21:07, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Support – Looks good to go. Giants2008 (27 and counting) 18:03, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States - Rmv the "United States" per WP:PLACE.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Disambig Miroslav Dvorák.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • 1000 points - Should be 1,000 per WP:MOSNUM.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Hockey Hall of Fame; - Probably need a colon here since you're listing the players immediately after. Same thing after number retired;.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • one regular-season - You hyphenate regular season here but there are several other instances in the lead where you did not.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Kimmo Timonen and Simon Gagne. - This caption doesn't need a period since its not a full sentence.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Stats are updated - Probably be better to spell out Statistics.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • Daggers should be superscripted.
    • I can do this if you want; I don't particularly have anything against it. But why should they be?
      • Again, just something that has been pointed out to me in several of my FLCs. Prior precedent if you will.—NMajdantalk

  • Link captain the first time (if you have to), not the second.
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • "number retired" could you add "by the Flyers" to be clear (particularly to non-experts) which organisation has retired the numbers?
    • Done: changed as suggested.
  • You don't repeat Clarke's first name in the third paragraph but you do repeat Barber's...
    • Done: removed Barber's first name.
  • 1,000 points vs 1817 minutes... be consistent with the comma separators.
    • Done: changed to 1,817.
  • "17 of them were" MOS doesn't like starting sentences with numbers.
    • Done: written number out in full per MOS.
  • Any particular reason why the names are listed by surname?
    • That's how all the other hockey FLs are listed.
  • Is Biron's caption (deadline day trade) cited anywhere?
    • Done: added citation.
