List of Republic of Ireland national football team hat-tricks[edit]

List of Republic of Ireland national football team hat-tricks (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Kosack (talk) 17:32, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am nominating this for featured list because I have brought the page up to the same standard as the recently promoted Welsh hat-tricks list to meet the FL criteria. Kosack (talk) 17:32, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Comments from Jmnbqb
  • In the first paragraph, "...partition of the country in 1921, prior to this..." is a run-on sentence
  • The linked article Ireland national football team (1882–1950) cites that the partition was in 1920, while the lead cites 1921, so I'm not sure which one is correct
  • In the second paragraph, I would insert "the" to make it "...Keane's third at the international level..."
  • In the second paragraph, I don't know what you mean when you say "... the most hat-tricks scored for the side."
  • In the third paragraph, I think it should be "has" instead of "have" in "The Republic of Ireland have conceded..."
  • You can wiki link The Independent, The Irish Independent, The Irish Times, and others in your references

Overall it looks good! If you get a chance, I would appreciate a review on one of my listed FLCs. Thanks! Jmnbqb (talk) 19:22, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmnbqb: Thanks for the review. I've implemented the changes listed above. In regards to the partition date issue, the Partition of Ireland article states it was in 1921. Although the act was proposed in 1920, it did not take effect until 1921 so I think that's where the confusion might be coming from in the other page. @Kosack: The "hat-tricks scored for the side" segment is the same. It might just be me, but I don't know what that's referencing. Is it the record for most goals for the Republic of Ireland? Also there's a few more references that could be wiki linked such as references 6, 15, 16, and 27. Jmnbqb (talk) 20:23, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jmnbqb: No the player has scored more hat-tricks for the side than any other player. I may be wrong but I was under the impression that we only link a reference source once otherwise it's a bit of an overlink situation? Kosack (talk) 20:28, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kosack: Okay. I've always linked the publisher every time, but it's not a big deal so I'll go ahead and support the nomination. Jmnbqb (talk) 20:33, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Support – Good job! Jmnbqb (talk) 20:33, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Could link Irish Free State.
  • This is quite a radical comment, but since you cover about half of the individuals in the lead, and the lead is rather sparse, you could probably cover all the members of the first table in brief in the lead?
  • "most amount of hat-tricks " delete "amount of".
  • Could clarify that no one individual player has ever scored more than three goals against Ireland in a match.
  • Could note that all games in which Rep of Ireland score a hat-trick bar one resulted in a victory.
  • Competition column sorts strangely. I'd make it chronological, or by tournament, but certainly not what it is now...
  • Ref -> Ref.
  • Adolf Huber has an Italian wiki page so you could use Adolf Huber? You may need to add a hidden sort key so it sorts by Huber though.
  • "Ireland - International" - spaced hyphen should be an en-dash.
  • Check ref 14 and ref 18 as well.
  • I have to say I prefer to see authors as last, first, rather than first last.
