List of Vancouver Canucks captains[edit]

Nominator(s): -- L.A.K.ERS

Though I know that I'm going to get some comments, please be civil while you comment. -- L.A.K.ERS 02:02, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence starting "Though goaltenders are not permitted..." is a run on that repeats itself.
The last sentence (Luongo is not permitted...) is again redundant. Grsz11 02:13, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heheh, I said please be civil. Anyways, I really don't know what to do for the last two comments. As for the first one, done, though it needs a copy-edit. -- L.A.K.ERS 02:29, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure how I was uncivil, I was just really confused. Grsz11 02:33, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

::::As far as the edit goes, I really don't think NHL season or Canuck seasons add anything. This list is about when they were captains, not when their career was, or how long they were in Vancouver. Grsz11 02:34, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It adds additional information to the article. Almost all featured lists have some columns that you may think are "redundant". -- L.A.K.ERS 05:07, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead
  • The team joined the NHL in the 1970–71 NHL season as an expansion team with the Buffalo Sabres, and have won two Western Conference championships in the 1982 Stanley Cup playoffs and the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs respectively. -- Comma before respectively.

  • The longest-tenured Canucks captain was Stan Smyl, who was appointed for eight seasons. Smyl is also the only captain to have spent his entire NHL playing career with the Canucks. -- It would be best if you state the years.
On both? -- L.A.K.ERS 05:07, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Trevor Linden, who captained the Canucks from 1991 to 1997, played 16 seasons with the Canucks, a franchise high. -- So who has the longest tenure? Linden or Smyl, these two statements contradict each other.
Linden had the most seasons as a Canuck; Smyl had the longest-tenure. -- L.A.K.ERS 05:07, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Markus Naslund from Sweden, who captained the Canucks for seven seasons[a], is the only non-Canadian to have captained the Canucks. -- (1)Unlink Sweden, its a common geographical term. (2)The comma goes before the note.

Captains
  • In the key: have should be "has"

  • The NHL and Canucks seasons columns should be made unsortable because some cells have multiple entries and are not representative of all the entries.

References
  • There is an inconsistency with the publishers for the National Hockey League, some have National Hockey League, others have NHL Enterprises; be consistent.

  • "Having first played at the Pacific Coliseum, the Canucks have played their home games at General Motors Place since 1995." Hanging participle. Try "The team first played their home games at the Pacific Coliseum until 1994/1995 (you choose the correct year), and have played them at General Motors Place since."
Used own re-phrased version. -- L.A.K.ERS 04:21, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "sole privilege of discussing with the referee any questions relating to interpretation of rules which may arise during the progress of a game." The quotation marks should be inside the period.

  • "who captained the team until retiring in 1974."-->who captained the team until his retirement in 1974.

  • "who was appointed"
It sounds kind of awkward, but I rather not argue. -- L.A.K.ERS 04:21, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
After re-reading it, you are right (it wasn't grammatically correct either). I changed it back. Dabomb87 (talk) 04:27, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Smyl is also the only captain " The only Canucks captain or out of the whole NHL?

  • "NHL rule against goaltender captains" Can you explain this rule in a footnote or something?
Done.
