List of international cricket centuries by Michael Clarke[edit]

List of international cricket centuries by Michael Clarke (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): The Rambling Man (talk), Zia Khan 21:21, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Australian cricketer played some memorable innings during 2011 and 2012, so Zia Khan created and worked on the list. He feels that the list is now ready to appear at FLC. Also, it'll be a great pleasure for him to work with The Rambling Man as a co-nominator. As always, look forward to your comments/suggestions. Zia Khan 21:21, 16 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comments
  • "he has played 85 Tests and 221 ODIs for Australia scoring 7,257 and 7,375 runs respectively." Needs a comma before "scoring", I think.
  • "ESPNcricinfo described that Clarke...". This would be a better read if "described" was changed to "wrote" or similar.
  • "He was named by Wisden as of their Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2000." First, this needs "one" after "as". Second, maybe the latter Wisden can be dropped so there aren't two of them in such close proximity.
  • Key: Minor, but the photo caption here could use a comma before "at".
  • Note 2: "the" needed before "hundredth" and "seventh". Giants2008 (Talk) 22:32, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Commenting on lede alone
  • Since he isn't the captain for T20I team you could add a note saying that he leads only the Test and ODI side
  • In the infobox you've linked everything except Australia
  • For the quote attribution must be given to the author rather than ESPNcricinfo
  • Period should come within quotation as it's a part of the quoted material; also suggest you to include "Clarke" with in the quote
  • "one of their cricketers of the Year" -> why is "Y" in Year capitalised
  • the highest score in an innings -> the highest individual score in an innings
  • between the teams is unnecessary
  • seventh Test captain, test repetitive
    • Not sure, given your first comment. No harm in clarifying it. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:20, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • You've already clarified saying that it was the 100th Test hosted by SCG Vensatry (Ping me) 02:33, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • Not sure you saw this comment Vensatry (Ping me) 18:16, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
          • Well I have to say the facts are separate, one is about the number of tests at the SCG, the other is about captains scoring triple centuries. I see no issue here. Better to be verbose than ambiguous. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:19, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Linking cricket ground is unnecessary to me, though others might have different views
  • including eight at venues outside Australia -> including nine at venues outside Australia
  • Ref #14 doesn't really support the claim
    • Ref 15 does. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:24, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • "He has scored Test centuries at thirteen cricket grounds" is neither supported by any of the refs. Vensatry (Ping me) 13:24, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • Are you cryptically trying to tell me it should be 15? The number maybe wrong but the sources certainly back up the quote. Number fixed. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:29, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
          • Ref #15 is for his "nine at venues outside Australia". Don't know what's the use of ref #14 (It links to centuries at home venues) Vensatry (Ping me) 14:05, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which one references 15 grounds? What's the use of ref #14. You get to understand what am saying? Vensatry (Ping me) 18:15, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Combined, they reference the "15 grounds". Add 9 away (ref 15) and 6 at home (ref 14). Alternatively, remove the references altogether from the lead and leave it to the list itself which has individual references for matches that are home/away. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:17, 26 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ahhh, that will confuse the reader for sure. I'd suggest you to go for specific refs. for all claims or remove them as they can be verified in the table Vensatry (Ping me) 10:06, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • Well I didn't think it was that confusing, a home list and an away list. But never mind, I've replaced it with a single source. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:15, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • His highest ODI score is 130 runs against India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in 2002 -> His highest ODI score is 130 runs against India at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in 2007
  • The last sentence needs to be rephrased

Thanks for the comments Vensatry. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:32, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

More comments (re-visit)

  • I don't think the No. column needs to be sorted, as we have a separate column for date
    • I don't see this as a huge deal, but I'll unsort it just for you. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • It was just a suggestion. You may apply sortability for that column too Vensatry (Ping me) 18:14, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • It's fine. It's done. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:16, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
          • Sorry to disagree, but I do believe the No. column should be sortable. I was fiddling with the columns and wanted to return to it's original state, but could not. I later realized they were chronological, but I can see others having the same issue. Mattximus (talk) 17:02, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • He has never scored a Test century batting at no. 4
  • Inn. for his second Test hundred is 2
  • The values of Inn. and Pos. for his second ODI ton are interchanged

Vensatry (Ping me) 02:33, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again Vensatry, good spots all of them. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
