List of international cricket centuries by Mohammad Azharuddin[edit]

List of international cricket centuries by Mohammad Azharuddin (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Another centuries list, this time about the former Indian captain. I remember watching Azhar as a senior person playing alongside Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid and Kumble—all of them seem to have overshadowed his achievements. If anyone comes across a free image of Azhar, it would be highly appreciated! Look forward to your constructive comments and suggestions. Vensatry (Ping me) 08:03, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a few comments to get the ball rolling. (see what I did there?)

  • There's one picture of him at Commons (File:Mohammad Azharuddin Sangeeta Bijlani.jpg) - different versions of this picture have been used on his article and a few others.
  • "He was the first cricketer to cross 9000 runs..." → "He was the first cricketer to score 9000 runs..."
  • "...remained the leading run-scorer until retirement." → "remained the leading run-scorer until his retirement."
  • "Azharuddin was named the Indian Cricket "Cricketer of the Year"..." → "Azharuddin was named by Indian Cricket as their "Cricketer of the Year"..."
    • Doesn't make a big difference. The next sentence follows the same pattern Vensatry (Ping me) 19:07, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Azharuddin made his Test and ODI debuts during the 1984–85 tour of England." → "Azharuddin made his Test and ODI debuts during England's 1984–85 tour of India."
  • "Reaching his century in 62 balls,[15] In a match winning effort, Azharuddin set the record for the fastest century in the format.[16]" → "Reaching his century in 62 balls,[15] Azharuddin set the record for the fastest century in the format.

[16]" (it also looks as though these two references should be swapped around - #15 is the list of fastest centuries and #16 is the match scorecard)

  • "His highest score of 153 not out was achieved in the later part of his career against Zimbabwe; he was involved in a record partnership of 275 with Ajay Jadeja." → "His highest score of 153 not out was achieved in the later part of his career in a match against Zimbabwe, during which he was involved in a record partnership of 275 with Ajay Jadeja."
  • Just a general query (and I may be wrong on this, so bear with me!) - in the two tables, why is the Score column rendered as the row header? Would it be better to have the century number as the header instead?
  • Reference #4 has a hyphen in the title, please change this to an endash.

Nice job. Just a couple more minor points:

  • "As of March 2013..." - consider replacing the month and year with ((Monthyear)); this should update this statement automatically and save anyone the job of having to manually update it every month.
  • "Azharuddin photographed in 2009." → "Azharuddin photographed in 2009" (as the caption is a short 'noun phrase' description rather than a full sentence, the full stop (period) isn't needed here, according to WP:CAPTION)
  • "Azharuddin scored his maiden Test century at the Eden Gardens and went on to score four more centuries till the end of his career at this venue." → "Azharuddin scored his maiden Test century at Eden Gardens and went on to score four more centuries at this venue."
  • "...when Sachin Tendulkar overtook the feat" → "...when Sachin Tendulkar overtook his total" (or perhaps "...when Sachin Tendulkar overtook his score")

  • Link batsman first time.
  • "9000" vs "8,648" comma consistency!
  • Should link Test cricket first time of the use of "Test".
  • " a century of 74 balls " perhaps "a century from 74 deliveries"?
  • " has the fifth highest number" you said "joint-fifth" in the lead.
  • "after his debut" his ODI debut?
    • Given the fact that he made both his Test and ODI debuts during the same tour, I don't think it's needed. Vensatry (Ping me) 11:38, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Test 19 sorts out of order when sorting by score.
  • If you're using, surely you should be using Vadodara?
  • Retrieved dates should have consistent format.

  • In Tests, he made centuries against all nations except the West Indies and Zimbabwe. At that time!! Not against Bangladesh so the sentence should be rephrased.
  • The following year, he scored 108 in a man-of-the-match... → Which year?? You've not mentioned the year in the previous sentence.
  • Reaching his century in 62 balls,[15] Azharuddin set the record for the fastest century in the format.[16] → Which is definitely not a record at the moment, so it should be mentioned.
  • ''later part of his career in a match against Zimbabwe.. → No need of in a match, I guess
  • Link BBC and ESPNcricnfo at 1st instances. Zia Khan 01:13, 2 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Comments from Harrias talk

On the whole a good list, as I've come to expect.

  • Just mentioned that his ODI debut was mentioned in the prior paragraph, sorry. Still might be best to making it a little clearer though! Harrias talk 13:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
