File:Labrynth Club.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Altcurrents (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This is a non-free image being claimed to be used for "visual identification of the object of the article. The article as a whole is dedicated specifically to a discussion of this work." This image is in use in a section of the article with no significant sourced commentary about the image. Fails WP:NFCC#8. Whpq (talk) 12:50, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Might you suggest a way that this image can be preserved then? It does not seem surely unreasonable, in an article whereby Labrynth Club was part of the wider Four Aces Club history (but distinct enough to use this image in addition to the one of the Four Aces Club), and in a named sub-section to which it is dedicated to, to retain just a low-resolution, non-free but fair use image to illustrate that? Altcurrents (talk) 18:21, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's use of non-free content is stricter than fair use. It must meet all of the non-free content criteria. The image can be retained by having significant sourced commentary about the image. Using it just for identification in a section of the article fails WP:NFCC#8. -- Whpq (talk) 19:23, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't help in the slightest to someone like myself in good faith trying to improve articles and ensure some cultural history is documented on here. Surely there's a means in which an image (low-res, non-free, fair use) can be used to illustrate a relevant sub-section in what is a wider article about the same venue? Altcurrents (talk) 19:58, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you are using it purely to illustrate without commentary about the image, then no, there is no way to include it. That sort of usage does not satisfy the contextual significance criteria (#8) noted above. A way to satisfy that criteria is noted in the nomination, and in the previous reply. The image can be retained by having significant sourced commentary about the image. -- Whpq (talk) 21:31, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm baffled. It's in a sub-section called Labrynth that explains how the Four Aces was passed to its new runner and became Labrynth. Is that not commentary enough? Or does it mean that Labrynth has to essentially become an article in its own right for it to qualify? Shouldn't need to if it forms part of a wider history of the venue? It doesn't matter, I'm going to leave it there and decide to not contribute any more to Wikipedia. Thanks anyway Altcurrents (talk) 06:16, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No free alternative exists, hence, the following picture is a non-free (copyright-protected) file under the "fair use" provision. Its only use is in Joe Goldberg, as a primary means to identifying the character of the article. Elainasla (talk) 09:48, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
