India has freedom of panorama for buildings (according to e.g. Commons:COM:FOP India). Thus, anyone in the area could take a photo of this building and licence that photo with a Wikipedia-compatible licence. As such, fail WP:NFCC#1, as a free equivalent could be created. The cover consists only of text and should be below the threshold of originality. I'm not sure if ((PD-art)) would apply to this photo as the book is a 3D object (and this particular photo is not released under a free license). • Keep/Move to Public Domain: Upon researching this book, I was not able to find any physical copies of the Arabic version for sale, so I think the image must therefore pass WP:NFCC#1 (replaceability), unless a free image of the cover of the English translation would count as serving the same encyclopedic purpose. Secondly, ((PD-art)) does not apply here per the second bullet point of the "When should the PD-Art tag not be used?" section of c:COM:ART, as the image is of the three dimensional book, and not just the 2D cover (perhaps some cropping would remedy this?). Conversely, I do think that the threshold of originality could come into play here, because while Morrissey v. Procter & Gamble set a precedent in US copyright law that: "sufficiently original elements within the work itself can still be eligible for protection.", the Arabic text and geometric shapes found on the Green Books' cover fall below that standard in my opinion, so therefore this image could be moved to the Public Domain. -- Fhsig13 (talk) 21:47, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
