Request Information

Request made by: Dibo
Where is the issue taking place?
Alan Oakley, Regional variation in Australian English
Who's involved?
dibo, tancred and user:147.10.112.157.
What's going on?
on Alan Oakley there is a dispute over a particular paragraph that user:147.10.112.157 wants in, and which tancred and I don't.
on Regional variation in Australian English there is a revert war going on, mostly related to my editing that changed some mentions of 'football' (that referred to rugby league) to rugby league in order to be a little clearer.
there are other edit wars going on between tancred and user:147.10.112.157 on other pages too, but can't be arsed listing them.
this is made more complicated by the fact that I suspect the anon user is a sockpuppet, and have an active case to that effect. In response, the editor has taken to calling tancred and I sockpuppets of each other, but has never opened a case or asked for a checkuser.
What would you like to change about that?
On Alan Oakley, I think the content is neither true nor relevant, and is POV pushing, in keeping with many prior edits by this editor (and what I think are many prior incarnations of same).
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?
not particularly.

Mediator response

Due to the possibility of sock puppets being used, I requested a second mediator join me. I thank, The prophet wizard of the crayon cake, for doing so. Somitho 21:39, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

While using the talk page of the article in question to solve a dispute is encouraged to involve a larger audience, feel free to discuss the case below if that is not possible. Other mediators are also encouraged to join in on the discussion as Wikipedia is based on consensus.

One of the main problems here is user:147.10.112.157 does not debate issues, nor is helpful on article talk pages. Template:Rugby_League_Playing_Nations_links is a good example. This template claims certain nations are Rugby League playing nations, yet wikipedia and google show some of this to be wrong. Portgual is a good example. Portugal national rugby league team states Rugby league is not played in Portugal as of yet so I have edited the template to reflect this, and explained my reasons at the talk page. 147.10.112.157's response was to revert and place a vandal tag on my talk page.

I feel user:147.10.112.157 has a very strong POV to push about Rugby League. One example is Rugby league in France. That pages has uncited claim Indeed in 2005, during a scheduled game between France and Australia, the local rugby union forced the rescheduling of the match to a less opurtunistic period for it. I added a "Fact" tag, which has now been deleted 4 times now. Both I and User:Nauticashades have reverted and commented on user:147.10.112.157 talk page, but the deleting continues.

Earlier today I again explained my Alan Oakley edits at Talk:Alan_Oakley. Time will tell if user:147.10.112.157 joins the debate or just reverts. Tancred 13:43, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have joined the debate in every possible way. In my opinion there is an attempt to call soccer football in Australia based on very spurious evidence (i.e. that English immigrants at the SMH and at Foxsports have changed it in the past year). I believe that this needs to be included.
On the Template, the changes are both wrong and nothing more than a base attempt to attack the international status of rugby league football as well as being unprecedented.
The rugby union in France pushed their weight to steal rights to a game in Perpignan in Nov 2005 to avoid a game being played on a French holiday between the Kangaroos and France. That is a fact that is already displayed in the sources. I did not know of it until I had read it there, and so it seems that Tancred/Dibo wanted to start another edit war to assuage her obsessive nature which was displayed when the two of them attacked some very good edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.10.112.157 (talkcontribs)
Since you refuse to talk about issues on article talk pages, please answer this one simple question. How can you claim Portugal is a Rugby League playing nation, when wikipedia and google both say the sport is not played there?Tancred 11:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I never did, I said that you had a small point in Portugal and that it should be renamed to something like nations with national rugby league football teams. The sport actually used to be played in Portugal before the war but was banned in a general anti-professionalism and racist mood that manifested with fascism.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.10.112.157 (talkcontribs)
Guys, the IP was blocked as a sock of Rugby 666 (see [1]) Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 22:24, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Correct, but I believe it was temporary? Do the parties wish to continue this case? Somitho 22:53, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It was later established (and agreed by all parties) that the disputed content in Alan Oakley was factually incorrect, and is not now present in the article. A checkuser established sockpuppetry and the editor named above has been blocked indefinitely, the sockpuppeteer account has now had its block extended to 3 months. I'd say the issue's comfortably retired now, a new case can e opened later if the problem re-emerges, but I'd like to think that the user in question will be perfectly constructive and amiable when he/she returns. Then, I will close this case as of now. I thank all parties for involvement; and invite you to open another case should you run into further issues. Somitho 17:38, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
