Delete Redirect could plausibly be turned into a full article. Per WP policy, if the redirect could plausibly be expanded into an article, and the target article contains virtually no information on the subject, it is better that the target article contain a redlink than a redirect back to itself. Template:PM5K

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was Keep. The name of a template is not visible in the rendered page, so it has mostly internal significance to editors working on the topic. A proper reason for deletion might be that it's confusing or uses a term that is needed for something else. Nobody argued this, and Jax 0677 made the case for keeping most clearly. Editors seem to agree this should be kept. PM5K (an article-space redirect) is a different matter and might be discussed in the future. EdJohnston (talk) 22:29, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

unlikely template-redirect The Banner talk 10:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It could: I was thinking of 5 kilohertz power modulation (in apposition to frequency modulation or amplitude modulation), actually, but doing an external search I appear to be about the only one who did. Si Trew signing as IP 84.236.37.246 (talk) 22:30, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think a PM5K is also a small transistor/resistor IC used for reducing voltage on microprocessors, but I should have to check my books for that and I haven't them here. A PM5K is a power modulator with five kilohms resistance. Costs you about 39p depending on whether you go to Maplin Electronics or Radio Spares or whatever your fancy be. Or have I entirely lost the plot? 84.236.37.246 (talk) 22:36, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have lost the plot a bit: you were discussing the template, I was discussing the article. Still, I think the two are pairs and snares together: PM5K redirects to the article Powerman 5000 (entirely separately from the templates, of course). Si Trew editing as IP. 84.236.37.246 (talk) 22:42, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - Blabbermouth.net has frequently referred to "Powerman 5000" as "PM5K". If "Template:PM5K" is deleted, then "PM5K" redirect would also need to be deleted. It should probably not be purged as the "PM5K" redirect has been around since 2005. There are similar template redirects such as ((IPFW)). I think that this is another case of WP:IDLI. --Jax 0677 (talk) 23:12, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But PM5K is also an abbreviation for the Sony Bloggie Camera MHS-PM5K. The Banner talk 20:37, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'll vote to delete just as soon as we have a navbox about that camera. As we currently don't even have an article on it, however, that could take a while. --BDD (talk) 20:46, 3 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment - Powerman 5000 has a navigation box while the Sony Bloggie Camera MHS-PM5K does not. Barring an alternative use for ((PM5K)) (and PM5K), the redirect should be kept. --Jax 0677 (talk) 01:00, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Expand redirect to dab. the phrase without WP:CAPS usually means financial difficulties, but as it stands the capless redirect might do better as a rudimentary dab page with (1) financial difficulties, (2) Dire Straits (3) Dire Straits (album) (4) "Dire Straits" Mads Langer song. Retarget to Android (robot). Android is a disambiguation page, but the robot is the only topic on the page that is regularly plurable as "androids". bd2412 T 22:49, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

The result of the discussion was moot, page isn't a redirect anymore. (NAC) Armbrust The Homunculus 08:58, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect blocking article creation. A red link is in this care more useful than a redirect to a disambiguation page that don't even mentions the sport of speedway. The Banner talk 21:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to start an article, you don't need to discuss it here - just go to the redirect page and click edit. But if you don't start it, red link to encourage article creation Ego White Tray (talk) 08:46, 5 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

According to LinkedIn (which may not be an entirely reliable source), "Active Voice, LLC was founded in 1983. In 2001 the primary application was purchased by Cisco Systems, and the remainder of the company was purchased by NEC." I'm not sure if that warrants redirect to Cisco Systems or NEC, or perhaps some other treatment. I have just created Active voice (disambiguation), where it is mentioned. Cnilep (talk) 01:56, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can confirm LinkedIn to be unreliable as content is user-generated. I'd say delete as the company is not notable enough for an article and is mentioned at neither article.--Launchballer 22:44, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Google Search. The default for redirects is to keep. This is a long-standing redirect, over 9 years old and the view of the commentators is that it is a plausible typo. Such redirects are only deleted if they are in some way harmful. WP:RFD#HARMFUL states "Therefore consider the deletion only of either really harmful redirects or of very recent ones.". Conversely, deleting could be harmful due to breaking long-standing external links. Since Google.com goes to Google Search it would be illogical for this redirect not also to point there. NAC. The result of the discussion was procedural close. I've converted this back to a list. It only has two libraries at the moment, but I suspect it can be expanded. Please propose merging, deletion, or some other method than turning it back into a redirect if you don't like it. --BDD (talk) 23:58, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
