As11ley (talk · contribs) – Hi there, my name is Ashley Townsend, and I have been editing articles for iOS, iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8, iOS 9 and OS X Yosemite for a few years now. As some of you may have also noticed, I also provide the screenshots for these articles too. I have a very good technical knowledge on Apple, iOS and OS X, above all, I am passionate about anything Apple! I have decided to nominate myself for two main reasons. I believe I can help to keep information on these articles as accurate as possible, reducing the amount of vandalism on these pages and providing a better overall experience for people coming to wikipedia to find out information on these topics. I also have a deep passion for Apple and its hardware and software. This means that I will take a very deep and understanding interest when talking about these topics. I first came to Wikipedia a few years ago with one sole aim. To help make these articles great, useful and informative to the public, and I believe that is exactly what we have achieved since I started editing in 2013. Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. Please answer these questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What administrative work do you intend to take part in?
A: I plan to take part in the administrative work over at articles iOS, iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8, iOS 9, OS X, OS X Yosemite and OS X El Capitan
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: I believe my best contributions to Wikipedia have been my screenshots for the above articles. This is because before myself, there wasn't really anybody to keep the screenshots both up to date and accurate. Some people when reading articles prefer to look at pictures rather than text, and I believe I have kept all of these screenshots up to date and accurate, boosting the accuracy of Wikipedia and the articles I have edited.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: I have been involved in one edit war in the past. However, this was because the editor in my view was causing vandalism, and I was trying my very best to keep the iOS 7 article correct and accurate. I resolved this by speaking to admins and working out a solution. In the future, I plan to not engage in any edit war, conflict or any other offending item that could give Wikipedia a bad name. Instead, I will talk it out with the fellow editor to work out the best possible solution.

  1. Moral support: Thank you for offering your service as an admin; however, you need many more contributions before you can be trusted with the tools. Not to say that you are not trustable, however adminship is a very contentious role and requires deep and through knowledge of Wikipedia policies and guidelines, as well as contributions in maintenance tasks (e.g. participating in deletion discussions).   1. Don't take this the wrong way Ashley, but it doesn't seem as if you have a real understanding of what an administrator does at this point in time. Being a sysop mostly involves maintenance work: deletion, page protection, administering blocks, things like that. I think it's great that you're enthusiastic about editing and I'm sure your contributions have been of significant value to Apple-related pages. I recommend reading this essay to give you a better sense of what adminship entails, how to better prepare yourself over time, etc. With a greater breadth of experience in several key areas, it is very possible that you might one day pass an RfA.   3. Oppose You seem to be biased to have a potential bias in the areas you say you plan on doing admin work in and were not very specific about what kind of admin work you plan on doing. Your contribs show very low involvement in Wikipedia's backend, but administrators are expected to be fairly familiar with these areas since most admin work is related to them.   5. Oppose as WP:NOTNOW. Keeping information accurate and reducing vandalism is a noble pursuit, but I don't see how having admin tools would help with that, and the statement of what administrative work Ashley wants to do doesn't provide any specifics. Being an administrator doesn't (or at least shouldn't) help you win content arguments or give you any more power to dictate article content, and WP:AIV and WP:RPP exist to allow article maintenance to occur without the maintainers being administrators. Also, although edit counts aren't an accurate reflection on editor experience and competence, I feel that 523 is just too low. I would suggest that if Ashley wants some sort of involvement in Wikipedia other than just being a "run of the mill" editor that they get involved with Wikipedia:WikiProject Apple Inc. and the iOS task force. --Ahecht (TALK

  8. Oppose. I recommend withdrawal and a new attempt in few years and/or at least 3,000 mainspace edits. With only 523 edits the candidate is totally unqualified for adminship. This amount of participation in Wikipedia, however well intended, is not sufficient to demonstrate or prove any understanding of even basic policies. The most disturbing aspect of this RfA is that the candidate has not read any of the RfA/Adminship advice, guides, or last minute caveats and hence they cannot be relied upon to read and understand any other instructions or policies.   9. Oppose per WP:NOTNOW. Low edit count, and doesn't really appear to understand what adminship is, anyways. None of the tasks described here require admin access. If you really want this, then keep working on contributing content, and start to familiarize yourself with the back-end workings of Wikipedia.
