Stub Obliteration
This Wales-related article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it....

Anybody can participate in this, contestant or editathon participant! The goal is to reduce the number of Wales stubs on wikipedia! This will close at midnight on the 10th and reopen with the Preserved County Challengeon the 25th.

There're no expansion rules for this, just ensure that you destub any article of your choice within Category:Wales stubs and subcategories. All you have to do is ensure that the articles are minimum 1.5 kb in total, the prose and sourcing are adequate and they're fairly clean basic starts, and that you've removed the stub tag and updated the talk page project tag to start class. At one extreme you could potentially find a 1.2kb article with a stub tag, simply add 0.3 kb of readable prose, give a quick copyedit and resourcing and then list here, but obviously more adequate improvements are preferable. If the articles are 3kb or more expansions naturally you would get the 25 points on top of this, and 40 or 50 points for targeting a core article, but there's still a chance to score well by doing a lot of basic article improvements. I will give 10 points per article for any listed building, settlement or woman biography destubbed, and 5 points for anything else. Articles which have not had 1kb of prose added in 5 years you won't get the usual 10 point bonus though, but there is a 5 point bonus for anybody who destubs an article which is entirely unsourced. In addition to this I will award a bonus 250 points and a £10 Amazon voucher next week to whoever does the most articles in a week. I will close this on Sunday evening until later in the month then and reopen it for the last week or 10 days and offer further vouchers and bonus points then. Remember also at the end of the month there is a 1200 page Welsh Encyclopedia prize or a voucher of similar value to whoever destubs the most articles in the month too, everyone here will count towards that. For the person who can destub 100 articles there's a further 400 point bonus, though that's a challenge rather than being likely ;-).

This exercise is intended to give contestants who might want a break from heavy work on core articles a chance to do something fun and easier to gain a lot of points for the week, and to get a lot of the stale or poor quality existing articles up to a bare minimum standard. Any article which is listed in Category:Wales stubs and any subcategory is eligible for entry into this, you simply have to give a diff when submitting entries to show that there was a stub tag on it and that you removed it and basically expanded the article to minimum 1.5 kb in total length with no unsourced facts.

Rules[edit]

  • Make sure that the article has a stub tag on it and can be found in Category:Wales stubs and any of the many subcategories or is below 1.5 kb in total prose.
  • Make sure that the stub is minimum 1.5 kb in prose in total, how much content you add doesn't matter as long as the final result is a start class.
  • Ensure that the article is fully sourced, with the proper formatting expected for every source.
  • Remove the stub tag once expanded and make sure the talk page tag is updated to start class.
  • Provide a diff of your work here and the final prose count using this tool.
  • Declare any bonuses you're claiming when listing here.

Scoring[edit]

  • Destubbing an article on a listed building (Grade I, II* or II), settlement/locality or woman -10 points
  • Destubbing any other article which is a stub -5 points
  • Destubbing any article which is entirely unsourced/or has a ghastly tag slopped on it -5 points
  • 25 point 3kb expansion and 40/50 core article points still apply but only if the articles are 3kb expansions/core articles. The 10 point bonus for not expanded in 5 years won't apply for this.
  • Bonuses you can find in the "Other bonuses" section of the Rules and Scoring page still apply.

Contestants[edit]

I've merged into the main entries page for convenience. If you still have entries to submit today post in sub section there, thanks.
