The Preserved County Challenge

This Wales-related article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it....

Map

The Preserved County Challenge. The principal goal of this over five days from 25th to 29th April will be for editors to display that they have destubbed a range of articles and have made an effort to try to improve content across Wales rather than just one area or subject. The aim is to significantly reduce the number of stubs we have overall for Wales, particular for geography and railway stations, and to improve the general quality standards for those places which might often get neglected. As with Wales in Red, there will be 200 points given to whoever destubs the most articles daily from each preserved county. On Day 5 there's two different preserved counties to tackle. Again the points will be given to whoever destubs the most for either, so on that day there will be twice the points up for grabs. 100 points will be given to second place and 50 points to third place. A 500 point bonus is available to anybody who manages to destub 50 articles over the five days, and a further 500 point bonus for anybody who manages 100. For those who don't want to enter the challenge but want to destub articles to their own preference, this is permitted, but you'll only be elligible for the 500 bonus for doing 50 and not the daily bonus for destubbing on the county day.

Rules[edit]

  • Though the emphasis of this challenge is more on reducing our geography and rail stubs, you are free to destub any article. It could be a biography or a historical event, not just a village or building. But it has to be related to the preserved county/modern county on topic with the given day if you're entering the challenge.
  • Try to tackle at least one article from each of the modern counties included within the preserved county. This will ensure that there is greater scope covered.
  • Make sure that the article has a stub tag on it and can be found in Category:Wales stubs and any of the many subcategories or is below 1.5 kb in total prose.
  • Make sure that the stub you've edited ends up as minimum 1.5 kb in prose in total, how much content you add doesn't matter as long as the final result is a start class. For smaller localities like hamlets where it may often be genuinely difficult to reach 1.5 with what little is available, 1.2kb is the minimum requirement if they begin as small stubs, but just ensure that the article looks as if it is borderline start class.
  • Ensure that the article is fully sourced, with the proper formatting expected for every source. You are expected to have verified existing content or replaced some existing content with new material if applicable and have looked to see that everything in the article checks out, not just quickly pasting some text and grabbing the points.
  • Remove the stub tag and add a done tick tag to the article on the list here (if applicable) once expanded and make sure the talk page tag is updated to start class.
  • Number your articles with a #, and provide a diff of your work and the final prose count using this tool.
  • Bonuses listed in the main bonuses sections or elsewhere don't apply to this challenge, except the 400 bonus for destubbing 100 articles in total during the contest (that was given initially for people taking part in stub obliteration and reward them for sheer hard work, so still stands).
  • Editors who don't wish to take part in the challenge and just destub any article of their fancy are entitled to, and list their entries in a general user section at the bottom below the contest entries. But you will only be elligible for the 500 points bonus for destubbing 50 articles, and won't be entitled to more than 10 points per article destubbed or the daily bonuses for destubbing the most articles.
  • It isn't compulsory for contestants to participate, some editors may wish to just continue with their core article work, but potentially a lot can be earned over the week for reducing a lot of our stale stubs. It's very important work as many of these stubs have been untouched for years, so I feel this is worth high scores for anybody who puts in the time on this.

Scoring[edit]

  • Destubbing an article on a settlement/locality/geo feature or train station -25 points
  • Destubbing any other article which is a stub -10 points
  • Destubbing any article which is entirely unsourced/or has a ghastly tag slopped on it -5 points
  • 25 point 3kb expansion and 40/50 core article points still apply but only if the articles are minimum 3kb expansions/core articles. The 10 point bonus for not expanded in 5 years won't apply for this.
  • Bonuses you can find in the "Other bonuses" section of the Rules and Scoring page won't apply to this except the 20 3kb expansions of core articles.
  • Whoever destubs the most articles on the given day between 0:00 and 23:59 GMT for the given preserved county will win the challenge on that day and be rewarded with 200 points. Second place will get 100 points and third 50 points.
  • A 500 point bonus is available to anybody who manages to destub any 50 articles in total over the five days. 1000 points in total is offered to anybody who manages to do 100.
