In Indonesia the RX-King 135, initially named the RX-K, was produced from 1981 to 1982. The 1983 model, which had a new reshaped petrol tank and updated seat, was released as the RX-King “Cobra”. The second generation RX-King “Master” came out in 1995. The design of the Yamaha's RX-King remained unchanged until 2002 when the RX-King “Facelift” was updated with new front and rear lights and a new meter.
Euro 3 requirements kicked in, and the last few years of production for the RX-King in Indonesia used a catalytic converter, which allowed it to pass Euro 2 regulations.
The RX-King has made an image in Indonesia. Now many people are buying the sought-after motorcycle for really high prices such as the RX-King Cobra because it had Yamaha Genuine parts from Japan and had a reputation for being very fast despite only having a 135cc engine. The motorcycle also had a funny and bad association with robbers and thieves as they use the RX-King as a getaway motorcycle. Hit songs are also named after such as “RX-King Senggol Dong Boss” By Ade Jigo and “Numpak RX-King” by Cak Sodiq. There spanned 4 generations of the motorcycle sold in Indonesia from 1981 to 2009.
