Category:Categories named after politicians (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete) · close request

Auntof6 has nominated this page for deletion for the reason: This is a subcategory of Category:Categories named after people. That category is mostly just a place to contain the subcategories that are in it. It isn't very useful by itself, and subdividing it is even less useful, at least with the relatively small number of entries we have there. I'd like to nip this subdividing in the bud before it gets out of hand like some of our other category areas and we end up with a whole new category structure there. This request also includes the following categories:

Please discuss this request below, but keep in mind that you shouldn't vote on everything and that there may be options other than "keep" or "delete", such as merging.

Discussion[change source]

I disagree that is not much use. It is as much use as any category. I also disagree that it has 'a small number' of entries - there are over a hundred categories named after people on Simple. On en, these cats are subdivided by occupation and nationality. Jim Michael (talk) 23:52, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What use do you see for subdividing this category? We don't subdivide categories just because we can. What enwiki does doesn't have any bearing on what we do here. You should know by now that we keep things simpler than they do. --Auntof6 (talk) 23:58, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In April, you suggested that I should subcat when a cat has twenty articles in it. There are over five times that many in Categories named after people. Jim Michael (talk) 12:05, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not that you should, that you can. You need to use common sense, some categories should stay large. -DJSasso (talk) 12:14, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
